Okay so it might be a remake of a remake, but im hoping that with the wii control scheme that this will be a great game.

Very nice price, unless I'm mistaken it also includes zero. Heat and rep added.

I did read a review in N Gamer a while ago and remember it saying that there was no widescreen support and no wii specific controls.

Doesn't include Zero. That will be a seperate game.

No wii control scheme. It's identicle to the Gamecube Remake.

But doesnt the gamecube version allready work on the wii?

I thought this was resident evil 1 with the control scheme from (wii edition) resident evil 4 thrown in.

Im confused now....:?

This game will be "a shadow of [its] former self"
#7
How many remakes are they going to do of this haha. Sega Saturn then PS1 then GameCube then DS and now the Wii. Any money on a PS2,PS3,360 and PC remake in 2010 lol.
#8
Wow a potential Wii release which doesn't look cack for a change.

Thanks, I might watch out for this one.
#9
Its a port of a remake.

Do yourself a favor and get the GC version, the only difference is the GC version is 2 discs while wii one is 1 disc.

Its a good game, although much harder than RE4. But its just a very lazy port of a GC game. Certainly not worth £15 when the GC version can be picked up for a few quid on ebay.

It's so that people who skipped the gamecube generation can still play the game.

The only difference is that you have to use a Wii controller rather than Gamecube. So expect a couple of waggle motions replicating buttons on the Gamecube controller.

'Very nice price'???

A 7 year old remake of a 13 year old game, with no added features or updated controls for £15??

This one gets an ice cold from me. Nintendo are just taking the p***.

To be fair to Nintendo, it appears to be Capcom taking the p***.

nintendo don't make Resident Evil.

plus, what else do people expect from Capcom, i mean how many times have they re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-released Streetfighter 2 in the last 16/17 years?
#14
typical nintendo shovelware
#15
Best Resident Evil by a country mile, I've just decided to buy the whole series on the GC :(. Means you don't require to use fugly GC controller and memory card and hopefully loading times are improved.
#16
I think the most ironic thing of all is that this is the most promising Wii title I've heard of all year (minus Red Steel 2 and the Conduit) and it's a remake of a PS1 title from the mid-90's.
#17
Wow - it is an old Gamecube game in a new box - thanks Capcom, you really know how to spoil us.......

Next.....................
#18
yeah like as has been said no wii specific controls, but you can't really blame capcom for that I mean to have the wii specific controls to work then they would have to throw out all the old static backgrounds and completely redesign the game in 3D. That being said they never should've released this wii version in the first place, then again if old gamecube games are getting re-releases without wii controls then there is a glimmer of hope that they will do it with F-zero GX!
#19
Well, my first mssage seems to have disappeared, so I'll post again. I'm not so sure about the missing new control scheme. Check this link out.

What It Is: The Wii port of the GameCube remake of the PlayStation original. Resident Evil is the game that defined the survival horror genre over a decade ago, and Capcom's now bringing its own "New Play Control" version of it to the current Nintendo generation.

Why It's Hot: Though Resident Evil has been played and enjoyed by millions over the years, there are still thousands of gamers out there who've never experienced this original chapter in the saga. With updated motion controls and a budget-friendly pricetag, we can't think of a better time to right that wrong than with the release of Archives.

From wiki:

"The game will consist of Resident Evil 0 and the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil, each of which can be played with Wii pointer controls. Both games were originally released on the Gamecube, before being separatly ported to the Wii in Japan. Four new trailers for the game were revealed at the E3 2009. The game will be released on June 24 2009.[1]"

Although I can't speak from personal experience, anyone got it?
#21
No one told people to re-purchase games again and again, this is for people who missed them first time around. Plus, since the camera is fixed, this wouldn't work with Resi4's controls.

And Red Steel + The Conduit being the only promising Wii games? Sounds to me like you made a bad decision and now complaining about it. If your only interest is FPS games then you should upgrade your PC, or buy an Xbox if consoles are the only way to go for you.

There's been a tonne of good Wii games this year, they just haven't been first party.
#22
I like how these gamecube games on the wii are being called remakes (by the producers, suprised they don't milk the pun wii-make), when they are just ports!

"Here's an old game at a new price :) have a nice day!"

And that tilte at the top of the box saying 'archives', suggest a lot more milking to come!

For the record I did throughly enjoy this game...first in 1996 and then this version...when it 2003 before HD gaming!

Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia..................

This game is the Resident Evil 1 remake that appeared on the Cube

Zero is a different game altogether - it is having a seperate retail release on Wii, but only in Japan.....

This is a 7 year old game, with nothing added, apart from some new box art. Waste of everyone's time.

fools, not everyone has the gamecube version, plu this is in widescreen

From what I have read, this will NOT have a widescreen mode, or in fact anything new of interest at all (apart from a stupid up/down motion with the wiimote to aim ). Fair enough, it is a good game, but this must be the laziest port ever!

you cant improve on perfection though, and resi evil remake is one of the greatest, if not THE greatest survival horror game of all time, i played it again the other day and it still stands the test of time, gutted about the fact it has no widescreen could have sworn it did. Really no reason for me to get this as i have two copies of it on GC, but im going to get it anyway !

Why not just buy a third copy on GC? Half the price, what a bargain.

Because it wouldnt have 'archives' written on the box, at the end of the day this is one of the best games ever made , at a budget price for people who didnt have chance to own it on the gamecube so I dont know why people are whinging. I just pray its paving the way for a RE2 remake

I reckon Darkside Chronicles will be the closest Capcom come to a RE2 remake. It looks good, but is still just point and shoot at the end of the day...................

Because people are being taken for mugs, getting charged almost full price for a decade old last gen game with no improvements whatsoever, its just contemptuous. If you are happy buying an identical game for the third time just because it has an extra bit of text on the box then fine, but you cannot seriously expect everyone else to feel the same way.

At the very least it should be wiiware, or have some improvements in graphics/controls/content, or be part of a bundle with another game, etc.

What you seem unable to grasp is the following simple concepts;

This is not 'almost full price' it is a budget release
Not everyone played the game on the gamcube
It is your choice whether to buy the game or not, noone is forcing you.

Erm the Gamecube loads faster than the wii

A) £15 is not 'budget' for a 10 year old last gen straight port ripoff reissue
B) Not only can they still buy the original game on GC from various places, but it will even work on their Wii, CEX are selling it for £6, dozens of copies on Ebay
C) No-one is forcing me to buy a sack of dog crap for £100, doesn't mean it's a good deal

Chill matey, Chill.

Budget for me is any game that is below £15, the RRP of most games on wii seems to be £29.99+
Cex may sell it for £6 but not everyone likes 2nd hand.
If you dont like the deal thats fine, but you dont have to keep on and on about it.
#37
Since when was £15 not budget? Games should be £30, and you can often get some close to release for £25. Waiting for prices to drop below £15 just hurts the developers (especially the smaller ones), so one day you may end up with no games to play at all.

And let's not forget SNES games back in the day were priced at £60, often not selling for less than £45.

I'm kicking this thread back up again because I didn't realise this had been released yet. I have a couple of questions though. If i decide to buy the gamecube version for my wii, will I have to buy a different controller? (if so, which type is best?). But if i decide to buy this wii specific version, can it be played using the classic controller? Anyone who has played this though, does it work well with the normal wii remote?

Loved the very original on PS1 and I bought it on day of release. Also own it for the DS too. Absolutely love this game. Never had the pleasure of playing it on gamecube though.
#39
it will be interesting to see if they release RE2 & 3 on the Wii.
Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't the gamecube releases of 2 & 3 simply ports of the PS1 versions?
I never understood why people put up with that, resident evil and resi 0 on gamecube had complete graphical and gameplay updates while 2 and 3 seemed like lazy ports
