Mine's up for renewal come the end of the month. I only have the broadband though (landline not required to deliver Virgin BB). Currently paying £21pm which includes a £5 discount on the regular price.

How much are you paying them for the landline and do you use it?

You don't need a landline with VM fibre.

VM no longer sell in areas where they don't own the network.

You can get non landline deals - they are even on their website...

I personaly wasn't aware you didnt need the landline. The deal is under £20 a month including landline that we use anyway.

Home phone is Virgin Media's cash cow so they'll do their best to bundle you one (and in your case you got a great deal by taking it). But because 'Cable' fibre broadband instead comes down the TV wire, they're the only ISP whom you don't actually need to take a landline with.

You don't need the landline but you probably won't save anything by leaving it out.

The way to get the best deal from VM is to hand in your notice and wait for Retentions to call you with an offer (and you can always cancel your cancellation during the 30-day notice period). Google 'virgin retentions' to see what deals others are getting. (Excluding line rental I'm currently paying £19/mth for 50mb BB, basic phone with caller ID and M+ TV with Tivo box.)

I've had the lowest possible 'broadband only' package with Virgin for six or seven years now. First year I was paying £9pm for 2Mb (£100 Quidco). Both the price and the speed have gone up steadily since then however.

A while back I handed in my 30 day cancellation notice and during that period they rang once offering a £30 credit in addition to the £5pm retention discount already on the table. So worth going through with cancelling as you say.

I'm tempted by this. A similar deal was posted recently but with added cashback for new customers. Only problem being I'm reluctant to take an extra service such as telephone. I tried getting my friend a retention deal who had all three Virgin services last year. She was moving to Sky and wanted to keep just BB with Virgin.

I did manage to get her some money off and ditched the TV in the process. But because she already had their cash cow landline they were reluctant for her to lose this and as a result wouldn't budge on deals without it. She no longer wanted the landline but having it in the first place prevented her from getting the better deal which I was on without it.

My fear is if I take landline I might save money this time but come next year it may hamper my bargaining power.

Thanks op they had offered me £3 off a month @30mb when I rang. happy now at less than £20:00 a month including line rental @50mb.

As per Taskin_red I handed my notice to VM as Sky offered me Sky Fibre and weekend calls for £19.99 per month, I received a call from retentions team and without any haggling was offered 50mb BB and phone with free weekend calls for £10.50 per month including line rental, so worth calling their bluff and give notice to leave you tend to get better deals from the retention callback team.

Phoned Virgin tonight but they won't touch my package as I have the sky sports season pass so they basically told me nothing they can do and to phone back in June. Virgin are a joke and I can't get sky at my house so yeah I'm backed into a corner really. £70 a month and I don't even get sports or movies in that. I paid for sports separately. What a joke you are Virgin.

You do know you have to cancel within a few days of getting the letter. And you have to be put threw to cancelation ie "I've just got a letter telling me my broadband is going up and I'd like to cancel my contract "

Try BT Fibre now, they have only just turned mine on. With any retention deals you have to say you want to cancel, they laugh at some people trying to get better deals. Honestly phone up withit in your mind you want to cancel not that you want a better deal.

I did the full cancel process I do every year to get a better deal.

I get 152mb BB, XL TV, SSports, SMovies, SkyHd, line rental and weekend calls - total cost £88.50 a month - should be over £120 a month - gotta love doing a deal with outbound retentions :)

Seems a lot of money to me but I've never paid for TV. Your BB must be amazing, you must be able to download films in seconds.

Tell them this. There is a current offer with topcashback of £252.50 cashback that averages out at £28.58 per month for tv entertainment, infinity bb and calls. I will mention this to them tomorrow hopefully will get a reduction although I already have a £5 loyalty discount.

Was just offered £5 off for 6 month if I take out at new 18 month contract. So £21 for the first 6 months with 50meg bb m+ tv and basic weekend calls if paying line rental up front.

It's alot of money, but the one thing I missed is there are two TiVO's included in the bundle, one 1TB and the other 500gb.

Allows the other half to record all her rubbish on her 'own' box and leave mine to me :D

As for the internet, yes, very very good - don't like VM's superhub, so recently switched to a D-Link AC1750 for wifi at home and this is what I get on wifi...

Can't argue with that :)

New offer is £21 for 12 months (50meg bb m+ tv basic weekend calls), Line rental paid up front of £144 with £24 credit to cover the increase (which makes it equivalent to £10/month instead of the £16.99 from Feb) and free netflix for 6 months. Took it :)
