Yes there are a lot of prepaid cards about.. however read on..
NO £100 topup required unlike the main other !
So I've been with Mondo/Monzo for a long time now and its my daily use card as i like the security of no access to my bank account. I wanted a 2nd card paypal and cheep china sites. I actually considered it being an ideal card for the kids that i can control (compared to those kid designed cards that charge you a fortune or monthly fee).
I decided to give Revolut a spin last week as it only requires a £10 topup, compared to £100 with mondo and the card only costs £5 (decided i didn't mind the charge for the card as i didn't want to have to top-up £100. The card arrived in 2 days with my name on it as well which surprised me.
You can even get your card virtual if you want it straight away..with no waiting and ideal if you intend just using online. However get the physical card as you still get the virtual details in the app as well.
You get a real UK bank account number (Barclays sort code) straight away for paying money in like wages etc.
Disable card, set pin, set limits, Disable contactless and magstripe all within the app as well as support.. pretty much what mondo does.
You can have £, $ and € and many more and move your balance around to use the account as a currency card instead.
The rate you get for currency spends is the same as the banks get so you get a really good rate so no worries about getting currency cards to go on holiday or topups like fairfx.
Overall very impressed and i didn't have to provide any lengthy details in the app. If you want to upgrade the account or are going to topup using another address registered card i believe you have to send a driving license copy within the app.
Make sure you topup with a card at the start thats registered to the same address and in the same name as it speeds up everything
