Dates and water for suhur is better than full whack meal - ie. paratha and the rest of it! The more you eat for brekky, the more hungry you feel.
#12
you cant beat a cheap date - well you can but they wont want to see you again ;-)

Oh dear! Dates are very nutritious.

Anyway, good luck to all for Ramdhan. People shouldn't complain about this year being hard; I remember when it Ramadhan was in early July, long hot Summer, long day and I used to play Football on a Sunday morning. Going the whole day after playing football without water on such a long and hot day was an absolute killer.

Inshallah we shall all receive our reward.

Alhamdulillah good deal

Riadh dates from Algeria. Aren't they about 5000km out?

Fantastic recipe for them here ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/porkanddateskewerswi_84704.shtml (for meat eaters)

I avoid Tesco's Medjool dates as they originate from Israel. Not sure where "medinah" ones are from ( ... best check the country of produce before buying.)

Me - I prefer Amer Hajj :)

Good price for dates, voted hawt.

Good Deal...you know I just stock up from my Umrah trip with Madinah dates and Ajwa...altho they cost £10 per 500g in the UK...

Best way to open a fast is the Sunnah way which is dates and zam zam water or if not then normal water or even milk!!

Try not to stuff yourself at Iftar time dudes!! --- I know its v difficult considering the types of food on offer....:w00t:

3 dates is sufficient to give you all the energy and nutrients needed for a day, a very powerful fruit

Why does it matter if they are from Israel, and why check the country of produce?

Nope! - I just had to comment on that

All religions teach is to do good and not harm. That has always been the overriding message
from the beginning 'till now.

if the followers start worshipping their Egos instead and get proud then that's what causes the problem.

Bought 3 boxes today. Thanks OP.
BTW I prefer Israeli dates.
Here's a great recipe for date cake (bit like sticky toffee pudding) that I got of the net.

Ingredients:
18 dates(Khajoor)
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup all purpose flour or maida
1/2 cup oil
1 tea spn baking soda
1 tbl spn cashews, walnuts(optional)
PS: If you use ‘baking powder’ instead of ‘baking soda’, cake becomes a bit harder.
Method:
Soak the dates in warm milk overnight (I usually don’t soak the dates since I use the seedless dates). Remove the seeds. Add sugar and grind them to a smooth paste along with the milk in which it is soaked in. Add oil and mix.
Sieve together flour and baking soda. Add the flour one table spoon at a time and mix slowly. Add the nuts and mix.
Preheat the oven at 350F. Bake the cake in a greased oven proof dish for 35-40min (or till a knife inserted in the cake comes out clean).
Makes 8 large pieces
Preparation time : 45min

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the connection with dates and ramadan, do they not count as food?

Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) back in the day would open his fast with dates - that is the link, nothing more.

I agree, But I urge you to be wholehearted and consistent. we should remember this when our doctor tells us he will use a pillcam to diagnose bowel cancer; we should tun off our computers (don't want those Intel chips running), avoid high quality fruits and vegetables, no seedless watermelons or anything that benefits from hydroponic technology; ( we all know what they are really used for) Throw away your HP products, anything containing Freescale semiconductor parts should not be used, do not drive a BMW, Volvo or a GM with advanced drive assistance systems

Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) said that Jews and Christians were "Children of the Book" - so why discriminate against Tesco because they sell Israeli prduce? They sell Arabic productts too - Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia - to mention just a few.

We are looking for bargains on this site; not discriminating against one religion or t'other.

indeed, however 'israelis', as many true Jews point out, are not acting according to the teachings of Judaism. the land they've stolen, has been only promised to them when the Messiah arrives. as t is, Jesus Christ will return, to avenge the 'death' he incurred.

Mmm, not a very subtle post and very open to discussion regarding such events by (presumably) zealous followers of Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) on the 11th of September, 2001?

Also, your post still does not change the fact that Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) stated that Jews (and Christians) should be respected - blowing them to smithereens is hardly respectful is it?

Certainly, showing disrespect by running a boycott on Israeli grown dates does not make any sense at all since those dates could have been grown by a hard working Israeli Muslim farmer!

FYI - the dates which are Israeli also state origin as 'West Bank' I avoid due to the following:

In 2004 the International Court of Justice ruled that the Israeli settlements are illegal – they are built on stolen Palestinian land. Growing dates is one of the major agricultural activities carried out by nearly half of the illegal Israeli settlements located in the Jordan Valley....
