Looks quite a good deal. Anyone got this set?

Just ordered, thanks for the heads up  Been looking for a cheap but good one

Looks a good deal. Am I jumping the gun if I buy these in antisipation for moving into a new flat over the summer? How often do these deals come arround, or should I just buy and keep it til I need it?
#6
its anticipation m8, yeah these types come along quite a bit with the old knive sets.

thanks for the heads up, i was looking for a half decent knife set on here just yesterday.

Ordered one, thanks again, heat and rep added.

Thanks - My cheap Knife set has long since past it so this should lower the risk of me slicing off a finger whilst chopping an onion!

Order placed :D

Never in the wide-wide-world of sport were these ever £80 as Amazon claim.

Still a decent set for 17ish delivered - ordered myself.

Good find.

For those wanting a set of GREAT knives I was in TkMaxx today and they have a 7pc set of Global knives reduced from the RRP of 300 and then again from their normal price of £199(I was tempted at this price before xmas) to a bargainous £140 now.
I only went in to see if they had been reduced and even though they had over 25% off a great price I STILL couldn't bring myself to buy them - godammned credit crunch is messing with my ability to persuade my brain that I need to buy expensive stuff I don't really need.. Grr. I'll regret not buying them, I just know it.

The one below looks alright although it doesn't say the brand. I could see clearly identical ones to this on amazon made by kitchencraft that are £30.

I've got a RS set of knives - I'd highly recommend them. They're not professional knives, but they're a heck of a lot better than the kind of knife set you'd get from Argos. For a 9 piece set, I would expect them to retail at £90 so £17.36 is a bargain! Just make sure you get a sharpening steel as well - decent knives are only decent if you look after them.

RRP i beleive. Not been on amazon at that price.
#13
@Wolfylee - who spends £140 on knives! I buy my knives to cut vegetables, are you hiding something?!

Very tempted however I ordered this set from Amazon which I also saw on here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001H54I1O

I expect they're probably going to be **** but I thought it was worth the risk.

As someone who is currently renting a house and the rental is nearly my entire months wage I'm doing some cost cutting lol.

Excellent post and time to get rid of my old knackered knives.

RRP may not have been £80 but for under £18 a bargain.

:oops::-D
#15
Well they are the kind you literally would only buy once - they were a bargain but just a tiny bit too extravagant. If I could actually cook I would be staring at my reflection in them now but as I can't cook worth a sod, then it's pure indulgance.

These are the types of knives:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Global-G-2-20cm-Cooks-Knife/dp/B00009Y32A

BTW That Ethos set you got is an absolute bargain.

You should post that as a deal, I have literally nenver seen Global knives at reduced price. I'm about to ring a few TKMaxx stores to see if I can get my hands on a set. For £140 that is just incredible value for top-notch knives.

Got to agree with you there Mascherano. Wolfy should have got that up as a deal. I'm seriously considering trying to get hold of a set myself even though I am broke. Thats a deal that comes around once in a blue moon.

My hubby wants a really good knife set, thanks for pointing out this isn't quite it, as I was wondering it this set would do! I think he'd like something like the ones you saw at TkMaxx, lol -- I'm hoping to find it as cheaply as possible!

Edit: I just looked up how much they knives go for, and I may check out our local tkmaxx, too! Hubby did think he'd have to spend around 200 to get the knives he wanted "someday" -- at this price the time may be sooner than we thought!

I agree - a good set!

Try Henckels 4-5 star or Taylor's Eye Witness Veritable Sabatier if you dont get on with Globals handles as quite a few dont.

Also watch out for dropping Globals as theyre ice hardened and will break fairly easily.

I had this set sometime last year been very pleased with it so far not sure about the 199.99 rrp but other sets on there are on sale for 200+ so for £48 i think a bargain

Those are a good set, not as good as the 4/5 stars and that RRP is miles off. Still a good buy though if you use all the knives.

Just before anyone rushes off to TkMaxx, think I should point out that the knife I linked to isn't actually in the set - I picked that because it was a nice big picture. The one on Amazon is a G-2 which is a 20cm cooks knife, the one in the TkMaxx set is a G-55(exact same knife except it's 18cm). Both knives are the same price and are in effect the same knife - one is just larger that the other.

Also, please bear in mind that when Global say a 7 pc set they include the knife block as a 'piece'.

I've managed to find the exact set here:

http://www.lifestylesdirectni.co.uk/I-8313/Global-Knives-Set-with-Scissors-and-Block.htm

Anyway, posted them as a deal, Lord knows how cold it could get:

looks good, have ordered mine............

Massively overpriced but probably worth £17
#37
Have ordered mine. Even if not top of the range I think a good bargin at that price.
#38
Anyone know if these have serrated blades or ones that can be sharpened easily ?
#39
The kids 'round my way will be happy :)

I did some work with Richardson Sheffield as part of their sale to a dutch company called Amefa.

The knives are top quality and will last you a long time. When I did the work for them I managed to get some sets (at a good rate ;) lol), and I gave a set to my mum. Her old knives were Richardson's too and she'd had them for a good 20+ years.

Snap them up!
