Some models of TV have the adapter built in, some do not. Mine doesn't (and it's a 2013 3D model). I just bought the remote and then found out that I needed the dongle, which isn't cheap separately. If you end up not needing the dongle, sell it on ebay, there will be plenty of buyers.

can you connect a headset to get sound using the bluetooth?

I think you have to use you're Bluetooth dongle to attach you're dongle with a dongle that's attached to another Bluetooth dongle via Bluetooth!

Doesn't make sense, I'm afraid.

If you have wireless internet in your home then the dongle will give your TV wireless internet when plugged into the back providing your TV has an HDMI port. You can then use your laptop or other wireless devices to display onto your TV screen. The dongle is necessary if you want the magic remote to work with your TV.

*Correction - Providing your TV has an USB port. Was just corrected on that. It connects to the USB port at the back of the TV.

The picture is much better when watching catchup TV or any other show via the dongle on your TV than when you watch it on demand through the digital receiver/aerial. I already have the Google Chrome cast which is a dongle attached to the back of the TV and I love that i can watch anything i want from my laptop to the TV screen. It has also meant i dont have to pay for a TV licence because I use the dongle to watch catchup etc rather than watch TV as its live broadcast which does require a TV licence.

When using the WiFi/Bluetooth dongle (at least on my 2014 LB58 series Smart TV) you get the following features:

The TV can connect wirelessly to a router instead of via its ethernet.
The Magic Remote can connect to the dongle/TV via bluetooth.
The TV can connect to SOME limited LG soundbars/speakers with Bluetooth.
The TV can do WiFi Direct using the dongle.
The TV can do Miracast via the Dongle.
The TV can do Intel WiDi via the dongle.
The TV can do Soft AP (emulates a wireless AP, and bridge onto the ethernet), so if you connect your phone to the soft ap you can use it to bridge to the router if you dont lready have a wireless router, or are out of range of it.

The TV CANNOT use the Bluetooth for anything else, and you cant connect anything else (headphones) to the bluetooth dongle.

Oops, so it does. I was confusing it with the Google chromecast :-D Thanks for correcting me.

I just came across the same deal posted by wearablecoyte2

I'm just getting to know this site and it is my understanding that you cannot post same deals. My few posts were removed because of this. This site is great but need to make it easy for newbies to post deals and let them know that is a duplicate deal.

I've just had my order cancelled by Richer Sounds due to 'delivery error to the warehouse'. I naively thought that Richer Sounds would be above that sort of thing, given Mr. Julian's soi-disant independent champion mantle. Pah!

Me too, i got an email telling me this, due to over selling so will be getting a refund and will be advised when back in stock, also I will be sent a £10 voucher in the post to spend at any of their stores. I hope this can be used online!

Im disappointed, dont even know if there will be any more stock and if the dongle will be included. :/

On a positive note, this offer is still available in store according to their website. Also, there is actually an app which you can download to your smartphone if you have one which works as a magic remote, youd just need the dongle if you dont already have bluetooth on your tv.

Apparently you can call your local store and arrange delivery of the item if they have it in stock. Just checked my local stores website.

Thanks for this, very useful. I've downloaded the IPhone app, which says it is compatible with my model of LG TV. However, it also states that connection is made over wi-fi, not Bluetooth, rendering the dongle purchase unnecessary. Unfortunately, I'm not able to test this as my TV is in a holiday home which I won't be visiting for a few months.

Can anyone confirm that the IOS app does indeed connect over wi-fi, not Bluetooth, please? If so, does it do everything that the physical Magic Remote does, or are there limitations? Thanks in advance.

Yes its wi-fi, the app connects to your TV when your phone and TV are connected via your router. If your TV isnt wifi integrated you will need either a USB wireless wifi enabling dongle or a HDMI wireless wifi enabling dongle. If the IOS app is IOS 7 then here is a link to a page with information and guidance -

It's definitely WiFi but if your TV doesn't have WiFi you still need the dongle, as the dongle is WiFi and Bluetooth.

My TV was advertised as integrated WiFi, but its 100% not.. I got a dongle in the box with the TV which made it wireless. Before connecting that it had no WiFi. Some do have it properly integrated.

It doesn't do everything the magic remote does (no voice search), but you can move the pointer with it as there's a touchpad screen in the app, you cant wave your phone about like you can the magic remote of course. There may be other limitations, but the main feature of the magic remote is the pointer and that works.

Thanks, that's just what I needed to know. My TV most definitely has wi-fi, and the missing functionality is no big deal, since the pointer was the main attraction for me. Plus one less remote to boot - splendid.

I've just noticed that it is back showing as available to buy on-line, whereas previously it was out of stock, so I've placed an order. It didn't accept the £10 voucher code I was sent, but what's the worst that can happen - it gets cancelled again and they send me another voucher?
#39
Didnt accept my code either, it needs activated by a store employee.
#40
The vouchers can apparently also be used in a Telesales call, but you need to mail them in afterwards. I took the opportunity to ask if they definitely had these in stock in this time, and got an affirmative. Let's see . . .
