Bought one last year - fantastic compact camera for the price.

It has been superceded by the R7 and R8, but for the money you can't go wrong

Ricoh know how to make good reliable cameras..

quick search shows you can also get the r7 (seems to have 8.1mp, but other than that identical to the r6) for not much more £132.76 + delivery

I notice this company sells on ebay so don't know how good they are but there are other retailers close the above price.

I found a better deal with a Uk company on a R7 at £147 delivered - http://www.cliftoncameras.co.uk/mod/Products/Ricoh_Caplio_R7?gclid=CP-37bSSwZICFQJjMAodP2YXqg

The reviews for this camera are good. It does seem to have noise issues and the start up motor is quite loud though.

Just bought the R7 from Jessops online, £170 less 10% Jessops code JESSOPS10 = £153 and collected from store. Thought it was worth the extra few pounds so I can return to store if any problems. I wouldn't worry too much about the motor noise, it isn't silent, but unless you're taking lots of photos in a church or somewhere quiet it isn't a bit problem to me.

Good camera, but rubbish picture quality at night. pictures are green. Mynikon p3 is better and is about £100 or so, so I wouldn't buy this.

Is the R7 really that noisy in usage? I'm very close to buying one, but that factor is holding me back.

Depends what your priorities are? Mine are compact size and long zoom with decent pic quality, the motor noise isn't a big consideration. It isn't quiet, but it isn't noisy either - if it's an important consideration for you then you ought to see one before you buy as a few reviews do mention it as being louder than the norm - my previous camera was a Canon S50 about 5 years old which wasn't silent either, so it seems OK to me.

I was in this dilemma a couple of weeks ago, so I visited Jessops and got my hands on an R7... almost instanly decided against it, and bought a Panasonic T-Z3 instead - solely on the zoom noise ! And the T-Z3 has a better image stabiliser, bought from a UK company £149 !

Well I decided on the Ricoh R7 and the picture quality is fantastic. I don't have a problem with image stabilisation either, but as usual it's horses for courses I guess. I think the R7 has the edge in terms of image quality. I always prefer to buy cameras from traditional camera makers who are used to making their own lenses and Ricoh have been too modest and under selling themselves for years. How many film cameras have the likes of Sony and Panasonic been known for? None spring to mind. As for the noise, I don't even notice it to be honest, but it only takes one person to pick up on it and something you wouldn't have noticed becomes noticeable to the whole world all of a sudden. Take my word for it, it's no bother at all.

Anyway, this deal is about the R6 and if you read the reviews there is more refinement in the R7 but this is still one hell of a camera and believe me, I did tonnes of research in the £150-£200 price range round about Christmas before choosing the Ricoh, so I didn't just plump for any old camera with nice looks. Voted hot.

Thanks to harvey6974 with the jessops10 voucher.

Takes this black R6 from £149.99 to £134.99 to collect in store

Further saving of 3% with quidco which is £3.42 because VAT is not included

That makes it £131.57 using jessops voucher and quidco

Granted no SD card BUT you get the satisfaction of getting in straight away and if there's any problem you can take it back

Mailed clifton a couple of times and they didn't respond so decided not to use them.

Haven't seen a better camera than the R7 for the money...

Lol I was selling Panasonic and Sony Cameras in Dixons 20 years ago so although they might not be as synonamous with lenses as Ricoh they still have a pretty damn good pedigree and history in the market-place.

It's down to personal choice of-course but I love my TZ3 and no-one can tell me a Ricoh is built better (that's actually used the TZ3).

As I said, it's horses for courses, but I never mentioned bulld quality. And if you read what I said, people who are camera enthusiasts (my father in law and my brother for 30 years) would not have bought film cameras then from the likes of Panasonic and Sony, that's my point. However I agree that the world has changed now into a digital one and it's far more of a level playing field. I was supporting Ricoh on the basis that not a lot of people who are buying cameras these days may have heard of them. By the way you lose credibility points for saying that you worked at Dixons - I'd keep that quiet! Next thing you'll be telling me you work at PC World!

Dont buy it!!

I used to work for Jacobs photo & video and the Caplio range was THE worst for repairs!! from the R3 to the R7 if we sold 5 units, 3 would come back as repairs. All most likley to have lens faults as the construction of them is quite frankly SHODDY!! at one point our warehouse got so used to getting cameras in for repairs they would have a stock of new ones in the warehouse and would just switch them to save the customer the hassle of waiting 6+ weeks for the repair.

After several new models getting the same fault (which the GRD btw does not have this problem) I ended up telling the customer not to buy it as they will no doubt be bringing it back in the near future. It probably wasn't the best thing for a salesman to do, but it was an honest thing.

Munk.

i tried one of these instore at jessops and thought highly of it, it was between this and the Panasonic DMC-TZ2EB which had the 10x zoom. But i went for the the R6 as it was more compact.

Just ordered one, will make a perfect gift for my best man
