Excellent game and a steal at this price. Hot.

Buy this as a present for people you dont like! ;)
(A couple of my mates play it and you never see them now!!)

Good game by all accounts but it will suck your life away in a WoW like manner!

As an ex-WoW addict, I thought I'd try this game as I'd like something similar whilst not having to burn as much time as I used to spend on Warcraft.

My initial impressions are that it's practically a clone copy with lots of stuff renamed.

The UI is much better than vanilla WoW but nothing special if you know how to download addons.

The game itself is inoffensive. Not many players yet and therein lies it's biggest problem. Without a critical mass of players, it can't hope to beat WoW. But since it's practically a carbon copy, I really can't see any reason to play it instead of Warcraft.

I'll probably cancel my subs after the first month and put the box right next to DC Universe Online. Think I'll stop looking for an alternative as there simply isn't anything which comes close.

Just had an email from Zavvi with an exclusive code to knock a fiver of their price and a weekend trial of the game. Just downloaded it and I agree with gadgetmann so far, very WoW'ish but different enough to give it a try. If you're already a member of Zavvi check your inbox as you might have an email waiting. I don't think I'll use my voucher but will try out the game a bit more before offering it out to people ;)

I had a guild on there, we all hit 50 and then quit. It doesn't have any PvP objectives but if you're (heavily) in to the PvE side, you may enjoy it.

Heat added for the price, but it's definitely not an MMO i'll play any longer.

If you are unsure, you can give it a try for free this weekend (This isn't a referal thing by the way - they just sent me the code below, and there is nothing in it for me if you use it - should be good for 5 uses):

RIFT is holding a special Allies of the Ascended event. As my chosen ally, you can use this code to join me during the dates below, free of charge! Heed my call, and together we shall battle the Blood Storm!

Event Dates
6pm BST April 8, 2011 through 6pm BST April 11, 2011

I'm not sure about the comments above - trying to claim it is a WoW clone is quite funny, given that WoW stole a lot of its good ideas from the likes of Everquest 1 and Asherons Call.

The dynamic rifts are good fun, and the endgame Expert dungeons are very challenging - you will not be running through and AOE'ing through them in record time as in WOTLK.

Population wise - I play on Blightweald which is currently sat at Medium population at 9:15am and is always flagged as High population in the evenings. Never a problem getting a group to do dungeon runs, rifts, etc ...

It's the first MMO I can recall in a long time that was perfectly playable upon release, with very few bugs, and non of them are game breaking. Trion are also actively involved with the community and are fixing (and making some new) problems very quickly. Far more responsive than the likes of SOE and Blizzard.

I agree with the comment regarding PVP - it is quite limited, being focussed mainly on Warfronts (mini PVP skirmish game types). Hopefully, this is something that will be addressed over time.

All in all - it is a million light years better than the likes of WoW when it launched - the problem is that it has to catch up to 6 years worth of post release developmnet overnight.

For this price, it is well worth it - even if you only play it for a month, you will get your monies worth out of it.

WORD OF WARNING:

I have never played MMO games, but decided to pickl this one up due to the hype. Installed this today, made an acount everything. Then entered the serial key which comes with the game into the account online....

....and it doesn't work. Hmmm....takes me to a page which says "choose membership options" giving 1 month, 3 months and 6 months options to be payable by paypal or credit card. Turns out you CANNOT buy this package and run the game by itself. You will NEED to buy this, and then purchase a payment plan for this game to work. (It can be either a payment plan OR a prepaid card).

Apparently this is the "norm" for MMO games. Also a trawl through the game's official forums shows a lot of people having the same issue and the other members are some of the most vicious, sarcastic, filthy people you'd ever come across on a forum giving NO empathetic view to a fellow gamer.

I've never seen such disgusting behaviour by a group of gamers, apart from apple fans who lynch another apple user who has a problem with their apple product and complains on the forums. Absolutely filthy filthy filthy, rotten, rancid people. Disgusting.

Anyways, as it stands I bought the game, activated the 30 day code (to see if the game was truely for me) and right now, I am unable to not only play the game, I am also losing time on my first month which comes with this game, all because of this forced purchase of a payment plan.

Basically, you set up your payment details, but it doesn't take the payment untill after the 30 day trial and also you can cancel payments when ever...
