RISE OF THE FOOTSOLDIER charts the rapid rise of Carlton Leach, from feared football hooligan to him becoming a member of one of the country's most notorious crime syndicates. Following his life over the course of three decades, the film follows Leach's career from soccer thug, through a stint as a doorman and his involvement in the early rave scene, right through to his nadir as an integral part of a gang that ruled London and Essex during the late 80s and early 90s and would culminate in the infamous shotgun deaths of three of the firm's members in Rettendon.

This was £2.50 (at HMV) not so long ago. Good film tho.

One of the better football thug films to emerge in recent years. It still seems odd to me that they go on to make films out of this sort of thing though.

It was. Sure it floats about though in the £2.99 bins.

Different look at the "essex boys" story.... better film in my opinion albeit a lot more violent, also has a sprinkling of Cass Pennant in it and an early scene is almost identical to the one in his film...

Think your confused with another film. This film has nothing to do with football. It is a gangster type story but it is based on a true story.

I think you might be right. I saw quite a few films like this last year around the same time and can't remember them all that well. I know i've seen it though.

Is this the one with the Turkish gang?

So do you know him or do you just add gangsters to your facebook to look hard per sooo many facebook saddo's? if its the later...oh noes!

Carlton was on a Sky program awhile ago about gangsters wives and claims not to be involved in the lifestyle anymore, depending also on what you have read he wasn't that involved anwyay in the whole thing but I guess only he knows the truth..

It does have a small element of footy thugs in the film but thats not what its really about. It is the film with the turks as well - naaasty scenes those!

LOL I knew him then and now, and as you say as you get older that lifestyle becomes a bit tiresome, he's the same as me now, cant manage the running around but still handy wiv the mitts.
