Can you do that? Might try it ;-)

i doubt they would do it and then let you cancle as that defeats the object of doing a cheap deal to get you to join

Cant find on the website saying I can cancel, I know there is a 10day home trial but surely you have to send it back :?

Its a book club. Keep the books and you need to buy 4 more over the year. The cancellation bit is based on the fact they will mail you 1 book a month unless you cancel the book before it is sent.

The same books are £15.99 at the book people a far better deal.

munnski, if you cancel, they may charge you £40 for not buying 4 more books.

T&C's below
Your Membership Agreement
In addition to your special introductory offer, you agree to buy at least at least 4 more books in your first year of Membership; this is your Membership Agreement. Fulfilling it is easy - we offer a great range of books to choose from. Once your Membership Agreement is fulfilled, you are not obliged to buy any more books, but you will remain a member of the club and continue to receive the club magazine and be offered the Editor’s Choice. Just remember to let us know each time whether you’d like to receive the Editor’s Choice or not. You can cancel your Membership any time after you have bought the agreed number of books.

Please note: At the time of cancellation, if you have not bought the number of books you agreed to buy, you will be charged a cancellation charge of £10 for each book outstanding. You may choose to either pay the cancellation charge, or purchase additional books to fulfil your Membership Agreement. This charge will be waived if you have spent more than £50 on your account. All books you purchase will count towards your Membership Agreement, except for special offers where indicated.

munnski - acccept the books - after 3 weeks ring them and say please dont send any more books as my financial status has taken a turn for the worse - ask them for confirmation

you have paid for these books according to the agreement at that time

times change - you get the goodies

the company use this to lure you in - you can cop out - your gain

I doubt they would let you cancel regardless of your financial status

The main thing that puts me off this deal is the whole editor's choice thing. I wonder how many people forget to cancel it each and every month.

try it - i have done it on a few - got a lovely leather bound dictionary and atlas from folio books - i did have to return other books - no hassle - they sent the courier

Years ago when I younger and less worldly I took up one of these offers without reading the small print (so wasn't aware that I had signed up for a book club) and after one year I was sent a bill for £50 because I hadn't fulfilled my obligation to buy 5 more books from them.
They wouldn't budge so ended up buying some kids books over the phone (without seeing what I was buying) just from their titles which came to about £22 instead.

I would no way consider the hassle of saving £10 and having to arrange cancelling with this kind of company, if they won't have it you will be kicking yourself.

Sorry, I am voting cold on this one

I've done it loads of times! I've also been sent the books several times when I HAD called to cancel - how annoying. When you call to say you've been sent books you didn't want, they always offer them at half price.
The Roald Dahl books are a good price, but unless you genuinely want more books from the company, then it's a hassle.
If you jib out of the membership after a couple of weeks, I would have thought they'd either demand you pay for the 4 books that you're contracted to buy, return the Roald Dahl books, or worse, pay the full price for the Roald Dahl books.

My sisters children got her to purchase these not reading the facts about ordering more books and got a large bill for the books which she had to pay so be careful.

eewwwhad no idea these horrid clubs still existed.
If you do cancel and they "accidently" send you the book by mistake they still do thier damdest to get you to pay huge costs to send the darn thing back. these clubs really are not pleasant.
Good luck to all

Surely this is where the unsolicited goods act comes in to protect consumers.... legally I would have thought you would be entitled to keep the books as a gift if you had cancelled and they had still sent. Not worth the hassel anyway.
