Collect from store is back available on the website but its a bit hit and miss which stores have any stock but more stock seem too be arriving all the time so keep checking your local stores if you want one.

would make good xmas pressies :)

Great deal

Very good find. Bought and rep.
#3
3.5% for sales, now includes click and collect purchases

http://www.quidco.com/comet/

Its HOT - but it would only cost pennies extra to let them play memory cards or USB pens/drives - which would make radio CDs redundant.

It's an excellent radio, good sound quality and reception on both DAB and FM. Well worth £17.99!

Actually - a word of warning on this.

Which tested 71 'digital radios' some were internet/wifi radios - but 65 were Dab radios.

The RD59 (BK is just the colour - there is a W too), came out the worst Roberts radio tested, coming in 52nd best out of 65 with there only being 7 worse than it before falling into the DONT BUY group.

They also said its price was typically £29.74 - so bear in mind, with both discounts here, you are getting it for under 60% of the price Which stated - but the 50% off claim from Comet reflects more badly upon their original price.

The review on Which reads...

The Roberts Gemini RD49 is a modern Roberts radio that is small and truly portable. It is easy to use and would suit those with poor sight but is let down by poor sound quality.

This is a modern looking Roberts radio, white with silver buttons and speaker. It is small and truly portable, though it lacks a carrying handle, it can be carried in your hand. It takes 6xAA batteries, standard or rechargeable, and there is a built in battery charger for removable rechargeable batteries that charges them up in situ.

Batteries were not supplied with the radio. You’ll get 13 hours of FM radio when it is running on batteries and 20 hours when listening to DAB. The backlight stays on for 12 seconds when it is running on batteries or is on all the time when the radio is plugged into the mains. Power consumption is average when it is plugged in, and it uses little power in standby too.

This Roberts offers average ease of use. The display has large text, controls are simply laid out and there is feedback from all buttons (although labels are small). The battery compartment is easy to open and close too. This is one of the best of the table top radios for those with poor sight thanks to the large bright display and easy to learn controls.

This radio is let down by below average sound quality. Sound is not clean, there is some distortion and is thin and tinny. It lacks bass and is not great for speech. But it is a small radio so this is arguably acceptable. The sound wont fill a room but it will be fine for use on the go.

This table top/portable Roberts has 5 DAB presets, but none on the FM band. You can t pause and rewind radio and there is no countdown timer or snooze feature.

Pros: Small and light for carrying in your hand, built in battery charger for rechargeable batteries, average ease of use, good for those with poor sight

Cons: Sound quality is below average

Interestingly - the DAB radio that did best in the Which review is the Roberts RD46 - It had 4 starts for sound quality against the two stars for theme of this post, Only one radio received five stars for sound quality - and it was £150 Dualit DAB Kitchen Radio, but came second to the Roberts, presumably based on price,

Posted as deal now too...

So using the same voucher code as above - and if quidco tracks - the Which best buy is yours for under £35.

An excellent price when you compare it on Google...

Good point - I was paying more attention to the best buy one - and the picture of the RD49 and RD 59 is almost identical.

Just checked Which and they didn't review the RD59... though it looks very similar with a couple of extra buttons. I would hazard a guess that the speakers will be the same though.

Good reviews on Amazon though :

Think I may be investing!

Great price! My old DAB which I use at work, broke last night.
This looks much smaller and lighter.
#18
Here's the manual

http://www.robertsradio.co.uk/assets/User_guides/DAB_radios_PDFs/ug_Gemini_59.pdf

I was hoping that with the mains power connected and rechargeable batteries fitted it would re-charge looks like it cant do this unless someone has one and can confirm to the contrary.
#19

I'm just going to take my printed reservation that shows the discount - and hope that they honour it!

Surprising number of Which? subscribers in here.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find the absence of any indication of the date on reports in the new format website unhelpful and annoying?
#26
Thanx:santa:

I am assuming they put the reservation number in their till which will in turn bring up the price and intiate the Quidco payment. I will find out tonight when I pick one up.... though I am sure someone else will find out first.

What I think people are wondering (as am I) is......at which point during the order proccess for store pickup, do you enter the discount code?
#30
Once you click add to basket theres a box on the next screen to enter promo code. Job done.
#31
HOW TO GET DISCOUNT ON PICK UP

To buy - click on "Collect from store"

and you type in 10SUMMERDAB where it says Comet1234. then press submit.

3 good reviews on amazon from people who have actually bought and used the radio in question.

never going to be concert hall sound but a nice little unit for when your out and about with good battery life at a good price.
#36
Using mine now, very easy to use and sounds great, also has radio text on DAB & RDS
#37
Voted hot!, Nice find, excellent wee tranny:thumbsup:
#38
Just reserved one too. Great price!

I have a Durabrand white piece of **** that I bought from ASDA 6 months ago for £25 and it's stopped working, plus it had horrendous mains hum being fed into the left channel. Useless!

I know Roberts is a top brand so I hope this is better (and lasts longer!)
#39
Thanks, Quizmaniac. I'd been thinking of getting a new, possibly DAB, radio for the garden etc and this looks ideal. Just placed order and voted HOT.

Thanks for the info, and I can confirm this. I bought mine and picked it up today. The sound quality is as good as the Pure One that I also have and it is much smaller, better built, and cheaper. It's a great bargain at £17.99.
