Robot Cleaner £60.00 del @ eBuyer

For those that haven't seen these on the telly, they're basically little robots with vacuum cleaners inside that bumble around your room, automatically cleaning every inch of your floor whilst bouncing between all your walls and tables and things. There's a video of one in action at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vgEXP9_Gz4 . Fantastic things for the lazy and the cleanfreaks, and this is the lowest price I could find for this style of cleaner. There is an alternative, also sold by eBuyer, at http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135181 , which is worth checking out.

Awesome - I'm going to email that video to my sister. That's precisely what she's like when she's drunk.

Heat added. Just ordered one for next day delivery. Wifes birthday on Saturday and shes always moaning about using the vacum cleaner. Who sez I never listen to her ;-)

This is just a cheap copy of the Roomba - the original and best robot cleaner. There are loads of these immatations and im sure some are pretty good. This is now an overally cheap price for a immatation though. Sorry but voted cold from me.

Not really. Remember, one of the things you pay for when you buy the real thing is the R&D that went into creating something new. With this, you're buying a shameless copycat of the original, for which all the R&D departmnet really needed to do was look at how the original worked, and find a way to do the same thing that doesn't infringe on any of those pesky patents in a way that's going to get them sued. Another reason for this being so cheap is that eBuyer are using it as a promo offer. They often do these sorts of things just as a means to expand their customer base. Look around. Unless you can find the same thing, or something very similar, for the same price then it's a genuine hot deal.

Agreed - this is very cheap for what it does and by and large it seems to hit the mark for those lazy people (like me) who can't be @rsed hoovering or for those people who struggle because of age or ilness to do the hoovering....Why pay double for a Roomba when you get this to do much the same for less:thumbsup:

I really don't mind vacuuming, maybe I should go see a doctor
#11
Do not buy one of these!

I bought one last year and the thing seemed to charge down in minutes!

When I sent it back, I was still charged for delivery for it being sent to me, so out of pocket by about £5 with nothing to show for it! :x

My Roomba ROCKS - it is a life saver.... got mine for under £200 and wouldn't swap it if you gave me all my money back. This is a good price for a copy though.

this cleaner sucks ;-)
#14
I might get one ... I don;t mind vacumming - who does - it's just finding the time, or a good cleaner.

I have a wooden floor too, I'm guessing these are what they are best suited for?
#15
Do you think you could leave this on and leave the house? Be nice to go and do the shopping and find the floors vacuumed when you get back!
#16
Got one of these about a year ago when they were about £40. Ive got to say it was absolute cr*p. Hardly picks up anything, and broke after about 2 days.
To be fair to Ebuyer i returned it and got a full refund but doesnt change the fact the the product was rubbish!!

That's the whole idea of the Roomba - it even finds its way back to its charging dock once finished.

Not sure if this cheaper version would be as sophisticated.
I believe Roomba either maps the room's boundaries and covers all the area within, or goes back and forth at random until it's worked out that it's covered the whole area and then goes back to its charging base. Pretty cool to set it up to clean while you're out at work, although I'm geeky enough to use a webcam to remotely monitor where it is during the day or set up a webcam with a "whole room" view and take a snapshot every 20 seconds, then then make an AVI of the resulting jpgs. And "hide" some talcum powder sprinkles under the sofa to check it's cleaned there too...............
#18
I've got a Roomba. If it's anything like that; it'll be brilliant :D [except when it gets stuck under your bed]
#19
arent they about this price everywhere?.
#20
Cold.

Get a Roomba.
#21
Great! This will go along nicely with my sweat rag, my back scratcher(a long stick), and my small dog who collects little objects for me......Ooooooh i need a Pastie!!!

Wow! No offence but you have way too much time on your hands, might be time to get yourself a hobby ;-)

this is to a roomba, what a blind man with a dustpan and brush is to a dyson
#24
Voted cold im afraid , had 2 of these one broke and one is under the stairs hiding they are an utter waste of money.
#25
I bought one of these Chinese knock-offs a year ago on ebuyer, and have been through two replacements after they just ceased working. They are good when they work but the cheapo's are not worth the hassle imo.
#26
If a Roomba is the alternative, where would be the best place and price for comparison ? Anything that picks up chinchilla hair from a wooden floor sounds good to me.
#27
What are these things like on carpets?
Gadgets like this dont have to be too clever to clean wood floors but carpets can be a pain.
I'd love it if this could clean a carpet well while I was out!

I hope it does, or its going back.

I got one of these when they were £40 from ebuyer. It was faulty and went back. I got another and it worked for a few weeks and then packed up. I agree with Greg above, its a cheap, much inferior item to the Roomba. I know the price is a fraction of the Roomba though but its design is inferior. You need a screwdriver to take out and clean the brush whereas on the Roomba it just unclips. I found it to be totally unreliable but you may be lucky.

If you can, spend the bit extra on a Roomba. Its much superior and it really does work. For years it saved me ever getting the hoover out. Eventually the battery went but I gont a new one from Ebay for a few quid. For your info, the battery on the Ebuyer one is exactly the same as those in the Roomba discovery series. Im not sure about the mAh rating though.

Good luck if you dare try one.

Sis bought one and its a pile of pants.
Doesnt work very well.

I've had 3 roombas ( yes i am that lazy) I had to send the last one back as some of the newer models tend to be overly sensitive to dark carpets (mines a kind of bottled green) and they switch off thinking they're about to hurtle down a flight of stairs. So have returned to my 4 year old roomba which does the job really well.

the Karcher RC3000 is the daddy of all the floor sweeping robots beats my roomba hands down
#33
I take it thats it's a bad idea taking these upstairs? or do you just have to use common sense and block off the staircase?

There is a little modification you could have done
http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7933
unless you wanted to use it next to stairs.

Is this based on real usage, you really do own it? Please explain, I'd love to hear your comments.
Can it handle mixed wooden floor/carpet?
