Rock Band: Band In A Box (Instruments Edition) on all formats is currently £34.99 in-store in Smyths. Picked one up for the XBox 360 today (from Friern Barent) and it contains the guitar, drums and microphone (no game), sales rep looked a bit shocked.
Still £69.99 on their website though, so must be an in-store only offer. From the poster in-store looks like it should be all stores as well.

Now does anyone know the best place to get the game??

Sadly the nearest store to me is about 100 miles away, so there wouldn't be much of a saving overall! Great price though.

I have a photo of the poster, but I don't know how to link it. I am happy to display it if someone tells me how...
Poster says offer starts on 31/07/09 whilst stocks last.
Have a copy of my reciept if people need more proof.

Dont get het up with proving your deal, most people have phones if they need to proof before setting off to buy..... unfortunately there's a growing number on here nowadays who are a bit lazy and expect you to find the deal, prove it and then pick it up, deliver and install it for them

Good deal heat added!!!

That's a good price, nearest to me is Charlton and it's probably about a 20-30 minute drive but do-able. Not sure if I'll pick one up though as I'm a bit tight on cash.

I have one reserved at Walsall as well. I think they'll be having a busy day tomorrow. I should pick mine up at 3 on the way home from Brum so hopefully there'll still be one left.

Just reserved mine picking it up later.
If you have the argos £9.99 guitars can these also be used as have 3 of them as might as well sell 2 if not needed.
What Rockband game would be best to buy to go with this.

Funnily enough I was just there picking up mine. :-D

Some chavscum in front of me bought one of each version (PS3, 360, Wii), so I wouldn't expect them to last long... though they had lots of the Wii version by the looks of things.
#34
ehh that chavscum was me,,,nah only joking1 is enough for me, lucky we got ours

Reserved a copy and is say "PS2/PS3". What does this mean? Is it for both consoles? I dont wanna go and be stuck with something that only works on ps2. Any help would be appriciated.

PS2 / PS3 Compatible, can be used on both. All websites list it as that :)

I posted this on the previous RB Instrument package. The bit you want is right at the bottom, and the rest will hopefully aid some of the first time buyers of this. Other than being cheaper than Play, the fact the firm is in the UK makes this a must-buy.

Next post is a copy from yesterday.....

Here we go.

Truth is you'll find better build quality in a Kinder Egg. But an awful lot more fun with this.

I'd almost wager my house that who ever buys this kit will be supplied with a Drum Kit from the "EL" series. That's the first generation of the Rock Band drum kits fake rock fans, around a year ago the Americans were being supplied with the fourth generation.

I've lost count now if it's the fourth or fifth drum kit I'm using. My fault really, when ever I got a new one I'd mistreat it by fitting it onto the stand included and repeatedly hit all four pads with two bits of wood.

If you want it to last, then you need to be a little light footed on the pedal (I myself never had a pedal problem, and I was 15 stone at the start of the year) and have a look for some pad silencers (should be another £15 on top - mine are from Ebay). The silencers not only will stop you getting letters from environmental health regarding noise violations, it will slow down the wear on the flimsy pads which if not protected will crack. Which is how I murdered my previous kits.

On top, if you do get an "EL" series, then Google "rock band drum kit penny mod" (or something to that effect) to find out how to fit some pennies to the underneath of the 4 coloured pads. I myself use four 2p pieces for the bases and four 1p pieces for the pad. This will increase sensitivity I'd guess to around 95-98% if you do it on a brand new, out of the box set. It'll also reduce the amount of "travel" after each strike which when you use with silencers (I use gum rubber silencers, felt silencers tore up in a week) it'll prolong the life span by quite a distance.

The GH Drum Kit apparently does have better build quality (as of yet I've never had a whack at one) but the way the pads are set out renders it difficult to use on a Rock Band game. Reason being the most common note as a right handed drummer you will hit on Rock Band is Yellow. On the GH set, the Yellow pad is actually the left symbol. Which if you're getting into your fake plastic drumming takes away quite a bit of the immersion.

RB Guitar Vs GH Guitar is a Marmite affair. I prefer the GH ones, the strum clicks, the frets don't and it's slightly smaller. RB Guitar has a silent strum bar, the fret buttons click and it's slightly bigger. The RB Guitar also has the "solo" buttons further down the neck but I found trying to use them actually made my brain melt.

The USB Microphone is a USB Microphone. With Rock Band printed on it. Nothing more, nothing less. However, chances are when you try to use this for the first time you'll discover it's broken. It actually isn't. Included absolutely no where in the literature with the Instrument Set or indeed the game is the vital piece of information that if you want to use the RB Microphone, you actually need to connect a control pad too.

If you want to get a four player band going on the 360 version of this, you also need another mains point. This is for the unpowered USB hub (included with the set) that you need to connect all four instruments at the same time, plus batteries/pack for the control pad that the singer is using.

And if you've read all of this, well done. It's a great price for all the instruments. Your ability to return anything that breaks is certainly more difficult as it's coming from Jersey, but if you follow some of "Marv's top tips" to help prolong the life span of the drums, even the staunchest of non-believers in fake plastic rocking should get an awful lot of fun out of this.

Just to back up Sparksalot's post, the best price for the most amount of tracks to play to is indeed buy yourself RB2, rent or borrow a copy of RB1 and pay the transfer fee of 5ish quid which'll dump all of the RB tracks onto your hard drive.

Hope all this helps.

Made the trip, picked mine up today also getting (foolishly in light of marv's post) the original game itself for £20. Great deal!

Edit: Yup, I have the EL drums, so Marv's house is safe.
