Brilliant deal , got mine from Asda a while back for £50 then just traded some crap game for the Rock Band disc at CEX . (make sure they give you the European disc though as I had to trek back to town to swap it , without the Euro disc you cant get the amazing DLC )

This is the ultimate party game , always end up playing this trashed after coming back from nights out .

Are the Rock band drums better than the GHWT ones?
#8
I'll NEVER purchase anything from these companies trading from the Channel Islands.
They don't pay VAT, nor do they pay tax in UK whilst thousands of legitimate UK shops are going bust.

depends how good you are,if you are a novice, these will do,but if you wanna play GH games, the GH kit is better,IMHO i would get GH ones,as you progress through the difficulties its great to have the extra pads for rocking out on

No man in the country is under the smallest obligation, moral or other, so to arrange his legal relations to his business or property as to enable the Inland Revenue to put the largest possible shovel in his stores. The Inland Revenue is not slow, and quite rightly, to take every advantage which is open to it under the Taxing Statutes for the purposes of depleting the taxpayer's pocket. And the taxpayer is in like manner entitled to be astute to prevent, so far as he honestly can, the depletion of his means by the Inland Revenue

Lord Clyde, 1929.

This is not just a pithy quote, this is the legal standard which has been largely followed since then.

In other words, if it's legal, it's not immoral. That's how the law feels. If you feel differently, you'll have to bring more to the table than "thousands of legitimate UK shops are going bust."

Play is a legitimate shop, and don't suggest otherwise. I'm sure this loophole will get plugged sooner or later. For now, Play on.

I'm wary of buying these mail order. Like the GH set they can have reliability issues. I had GH World Tour and am taking the whole thing back to Tesco tomorrow because the guitar strummer is intermittent and they can't just replace the guitar. So I'm going to have to get a refund.

(Activision want me to post the guitar neck at my expense for a replacement, so sod 'em.)

I'm really tempted to swap for the Rock Band set instead since GHWT was £111 (with game), but I've got to find it cheap in a shop so I can take it back if it has problems.

been waiting since December for these constantly phoning ASDA to see if they were in stock and my search is over finally. Thanks uploader and thanks play.com voted hot hot hot!

Regarding faulty instruments etc, I have this for the PS2 and my microphone broke after a few months. Logged a warranty return online and 2 days later a brand new microphone arrived at my house. The service on this is outstanding.

You sound like a reasonably advanced law student. It's the sort of claptrap I would have come out with :-D

I think you will find the likes of tesco and asda to name a few ship their games from jersey! The ones going to the wall, woolworths etc was probably due to the fact their games were hugely overpriced

Buy this, and Rock Band 2, then buy the licences for the Rock Band 1 songs (about £5?) and borrow or rent Rock Band 1

I just saw Rock Band set on offer in Tesco, few mins ago, maybe you could swap your game there?

I still can't believe we don't have the RB2 instruments over here yet. It's the reason I've not bought the game.

Seems like they'll never be released.

However, Beatles: Rock Band comes out in September and that will have the RB2 instruments (but dressed up as replicas of the instruments the Beatles used).

Won't be cheap though, particularly compared to this.

Similar experience with RB drums on the PS3, the pedal snapped in half and a replacement was sent and received within a week and didn't ask for the original back - all simple and hassle free.

Here we go.

Truth is you'll find better build quality in a Kinder Egg. But an awful lot more fun with this.

I'd almost wager my house that who ever buys this kit will be supplied with a Drum Kit from the "EL" series. That's the first generation of the Rock Band drum kits fake rock fans, around a year ago the Americans were being supplied with the fourth generation.

I've lost count now if it's the fourth or fifth drum kit I'm using. My fault really, when ever I got a new one I'd mistreat it by fitting it onto the stand included and repeatedly hit all four pads with two bits of wood.

If you want it to last, then you need to be a little light footed on the pedal (I myself never had a pedal problem, and I was 15 stone at the start of the year) and have a look for some pad silencers (should be another £15 on top - mine are from Ebay). The silencers not only will stop you getting letters from environmental health regarding noise violations, it will slow down the wear on the flimsy pads which if not protected will crack. Which is how I murdered my previous kits.

On top, if you do get an "EL" series, then Google "rock band drum kit penny mod" (or something to that effect) to find out how to fit some pennies to the underneath of the 4 coloured pads. I myself use four 2p pieces for the bases and four 1p pieces for the pad. This will increase sensitivity I'd guess to around 95-98% if you do it on a brand new, out of the box set. It'll also reduce the amount of "travel" after each strike which when you use with silencers (I use gum rubber silencers, felt silencers tore up in a week) it'll prolong the life span by quite a distance.

The GH Drum Kit apparently does have better build quality (as of yet I've never had a whack at one) but the way the pads are set out renders it difficult to use on a Rock Band game. Reason being the most common note as a right handed drummer you will hit on Rock Band is Yellow. On the GH set, the Yellow pad is actually the left symbol. Which if you're getting into your fake plastic drumming takes away quite a bit of the immersion.

RB Guitar Vs GH Guitar is a Marmite affair. I prefer the GH ones, the strum clicks, the frets don't and it's slightly smaller. RB Guitar has a silent strum bar, the fret buttons click and it's slightly bigger. The RB Guitar also has the "solo" buttons further down the neck but I found trying to use them actually made my brain melt.

The USB Microphone is a USB Microphone. With Rock Band printed on it. Nothing more, nothing less. However, chances are when you try to use this for the first time you'll discover it's broken. It actually isn't. Included absolutely no where in the literature with the Instrument Set or indeed the game is the vital piece of information that if you want to use the RB Microphone, you actually need to connect a control pad too.

If you want to get a four player band going on the 360 version of this, you also need another mains point. This is for the unpowered USB hub (included with the set) that you need to connect all four instruments at the same time, plus batteries/pack for the control pad that the singer is using.

And if you've read all of this, well done. It's a great price for all the instruments. Your ability to return anything that breaks is certainly more difficult as it's coming from Jersey, but if you follow some of "Marv's top tips" to help prolong the life span of the drums, even the staunchest of non-believers in fake plastic rocking should get an awful lot of fun out of this.

Just to back up Sparksalot's post, the best price for the most amount of tracks to play to is indeed buy yourself RB2, rent or borrow a copy of RB1 and pay the transfer fee of 5ish quid which'll dump all of the RB tracks onto your hard drive.

Hope all this helps.

I cannot stress how much fun this game is, even if you haven't got enough people round to fully form the band, this is still awesome with just two or three, hooooot

Isn't this cheaper at Smyth's toy store?

Thanks for the top tips Marviewarvie
However mine arrived today and I can confirm that the drums are QM rather than EL series.
Bought RB2 as well for £25... God it's addictive - The whole family have been playing solidly for the last 6 hours - my arms hurt!

If you have RB2 and RB1 you can export almost all the tracks from RB1 to play in RB2 for 400MSP. Any chance we can send a copy of RB1 around to save us the trouble of renting it?
