The Guitar Hero 3 guitar should be fine, and the Lips mics work very well indeed.
http://www.rockband.com/compatibility shows a matrix of what works with what. (The Guitar Hero III Gibson Les Paul should work with all of the Rock Band games as well as all GH games)

The Lips mics work fine with RB2, RB: Beatles and will work fine with RB:Lego (there's no patch for RB1 as I understand it, but as you can import 98% of the tracks from RB1 into RB2 and RB2 is finally sometimes seen cheap it's probably worth getting RB2 and paying the points to import the tracks anyway). For the GH games everything from GH: Metallica on (i.e. GH: Metallica, GH 5, and Band Hero) supports them. I don't believe there's any plans to backport it into GH:WT, unfortunately.

I would say that RB: Beatles is definitely worth it at this price purely because it's a definite experience to play, and it's full of wonderful little touches for Beatles fans and non-fans alike. I just wish that they'd make a "The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash" track pack for it...

is this a waste of time to play with just a normal Xbox controller?

yeah you just need a guitar controller really
#19
Temping, but i'll see what the other retailers do, might drop it down further. Alot of sites (hmv, amazon etc) have been dropping their prices of this game (and accessories) to beat each other the last month or so. Coming upto christmas aswell and if last christmas was anything to go by, there'll be alot of bargains to be had with games.

Good price though!

It depends what instrument you wish to play. In general if you want to play guitar you'll need a guitar controller from a Rock Band game or a Guitar Hero game - wireless is generally better. If you want to play drums you'll need a drum kit from RB 1 or 2, GH:WT or Band Hero (or RB: Beatles, obviously). If you want to sing you'll need a USB microphone - not all of them work though, so it's best sticking to ones from RB or GH - or the Lips/Microsoft wireless microphones.

Instrument compatibility can be found at http://www.rockband.com/compatibility and you can mix-and-match from various games - I use the GH:WT guitar, Lips microphones and a RB 1 drum kit.

Short answer; no, they don't work. Shame, because they're nice mics.

Edited: just to make sure, you do mean on the Xbox 360 version, yes? If it's on the PS3 version of RB:Beatles I can't comment, not tried that - I've only tried it on the 360 version.

Are the mic's enclosed wireless or the wired version?
#23
Very very tempted as a Xmas present.. I picked up a bargain Rock Band game and drum kit so this would go well. Anyone know any good offers on guitar/mics for Xbox 360 ?

It's theoretically possible as all of the "instrument" buttons map onto controller buttons, but I suspect it would be even further removed from any kind of "real" experience, such as it is. It would also probably be fiendishly hard as the note progressions are designed for the instruments, not controller buttons - so they're not going to "flow" naturally for that.

I'm trying to remember if the headset works as a microphone in RB: Beatles; I think it did in RB1 but I can't remember if it still does in RB: Beatles.

So probably it would be a waste of time, yes. Instruments can be found pretty cheap though.

(Edit: Headset doesn't work in RB: Beatles - I suspect it's just not sensitive enough for the harmony stuff)

Googling gives a lot of variation on this! Some posts around the place claim that the PS2 and PS3 SingStar mics are identical while some claim that the PS2 ones don't work at all well. It's all very confusing.

I'll defer to someone who's tried it on a PS3...

mm - I have Singstar on the PS3 but GH on the Xbox, what version to buy....
