sounds good, but what are these actually like?

you get what you pay for.

Most of these so called beginner packages are hopeless, as the guitar isnt always in tune so you learn to play incorrectly.
You are much better buying a secondhand guitar for upto £100 and try and pick up a cheap amp, that way at least you will be getting a quality guitar.

Double the price however, but cheers.

these ARE **** guitars...the amps are worse...hence the price.

however its not worth paying over £50 for a first timer anyways... especially if whoever you get it for decides they dont like playing as resale value is pretty poor (i've lost hundreds on guitars)...you can pick the basics up on this, working on your strumming (no need if you w**k alot :P) learning the chords getting your fingers moving freely

as for the bloke who said it would be out of tune...

they arent there to look pretty LOL!
every time the temperature changes in a room a guitar will probably go out of tune slightly as the strings expand and shrink,
you can get a tuner for like £10 in argos.

edit. didn't mean to sound like a nob there...just came out that way :D

I would imagine total crap. Yes it will work and you should be able to tune it up (sort of) and will help a begginer learn a few chords etc. I would say the intonation will be way out as I very much doubt it will have been setup properly and is not something a begginer would even know how set about doing.

Errrm, can't you just turn the knobs and re-tune it then? :?

To be fair araggedtiger made some very good points about buying a second hand guitar - I think what he meant to say was that it will not stay in tune well - which can be a problem for cheap and nasty guitars - and a nightmare if you are a beginner and have to constantly re-tune it.

Personally as someone who has played guitar for a long time I would advise staying away from this guitar package.

Hi, ive just started to learn guitar and was wondering whether to buy this or buy a fender package i found (around 4 times price like lol) or possibly a "stagg" package i found (2x price) both come with amps, quotes below:

Accessories include an instructional DVD, an electronic tuner, guitar strap, gig bag, guitar cable, guitar stand and picks - everything you need to Stop Dreaming and Start Playing!

Stagg:

Package includes a S300 electric guitar featuring Solid alder body, 25 1/2" hard maple bolt-on neck, rosewood fingerboard, 21 frets, Three single coil pickups 5-way selector switch, 1x Vol, 2x tone controls, classic "S" style bridge with tremolo diecast chrome tuners Assories included in this pack guitar strap, pitch pipe guitar bag, extra string set, e-Media(tm) CD Rom (featuring: 20 guitar lessons, animated fretboard, automatic guitar tuner, digital metronome, recorder and 1 chord dictionary) 10w RMS amplifier with 6.5" speaker, high impedance instrument input, 3-band EQ with parametric mid control, volume and gain controls, Overdrive switch for versatile distortion, headphone input
