I agree. Why cold?

Everyone gets one vote. No vetting system other than minimal motor skills and Internet connection are required. Quite frankly it is a terrible system, but better than every other one tried so far.

Wouldn't go outdoors price match and beat by 10%?

They would have done if it was in stock. However, as was proved, coats like this wouldn't stay in stock long enough for GoOutdoors to price match!

Alpkit.com have something very similar for the same price (give or take a tenner). Is Rab gear as good as it used to be?

Shame it's silver :(. I would definitely have had this if it were a darker colour.
Silver Is actually not all that bad been after this for ages I have seen this jacket it in the shops colour does not even stand out compared too some down jackets and its ultra warm premium down fill here not the cheaper version either
Ohh its £220 for the dark one

Fortunately for my wallet, the size XL jacket is now out of stock :).
I am sure the silver would be fine - however, I much prefer the understated colours in the Rab range (particularly the dark blue).
Anyway, it is an excellent price - so good find!

Lol.
There is no right or wrong way. On different days at different times the same deal can be hot or just stay luke warm.
Just ensure price shown is what everybody pays and includes delivery charges. Possible discounts can be shown in the description. Avoid posting winter car tyres or One Direction deals and ignore the negative comments.
Good luck.
+ £4 delivery!

I think you would have been better to have listed the womens at least they are of a common size & just mentioned the mens in description but to be honest climbing gear doesnt get much support on here. Its a good sport & I miss it due to being a full time dad but hopefully when my son is 5 we will start going together.
Size 40 & 48 only thats about a 6 1/2 & a 12 1/2 UK could it be more extreme in sizes?

Yeah I definitely wouldn't do a mara in them haha...Did 10 miles on road in them last week and they were fine but I imagine another 4 or 5 miles on the road and they'd start to be uncomfortable

Can you run on the road in these, or would you carry them until you got to the muddy bit?!

You'd be fine wearing these or any trail shoes while road running. The main difference is usually just the thickness of material used and therefore trail shoes tend to be heavier.

Yes - the Scarpa Manta is a rigid boot. A mountain boot. Rigid enough to take semi-rigid crampons

I have used Manta's for hundreds of miles of high alpine trekking - on rocky paths, and patches of snow. Over 20 years I've owned 2 pairs - each has lasted through numerous trips to the high mountains.

Personally, I like a rigid heavy boot when walking with a heavy pack on rocky surfaces - for the stability.

Mine were all normal leather. The suede finish on these ones means I probably wouldn't recommend them for muddy British winter walking - more for dry dusty Alpine trails, snow, crossing Alpine streams etc. Perhaps difficult to clean after trudging through boggy British farmland.
These are amazing for mountains. They are stiff like Dutch clogs.
They are rigid, bought them when last time posted here for £64, thinking of returning.
Surely women don't need these for ironing, hoovering, embroidery.......
If u find a women who like to get out walking in UK winter conditions, u should carry her on hands.

Do you know if Go Outdoors will price match them if the size you want isn't in stock on the rockrun website?

I did a price match online enquiry. They required the sizes I was after and then confirmed approval by email. It said to take email to checkout when paying. There is no mention of shoe size in the email just a code. Maybe worth you doing the same but give a size that is in stock in your case

Thanks! I wonder if the code is specific for that size of shoe and the till will only accept it for that barcode? Unless all sizes have the same barcode? I'll give it a try anyway and see what happens. The mens are in stock in my size, so hopefully shouldn't be a problem, but wanted to get a pair of womens for my sister too, she's in store trying them on now so will find out what size she is, you never know they might price match them any way!

I gave 2 sizes both mens and womens ,not sure how code will work but worth a try. I am still waiting for mine to arrive from Rock+Run as they were meant to be sent next day courier but no sign of them as yet

I went to Go Outdoors today, but the guy talked me out of buying them (I didn't mention the price match). I need some boots mainly for hill walking, slight scrambling, and the odd (none snowy) mountain climb, but he said they'll probably be overkill, but they're great for winter walking and glaciers with crampons. No idea how true all of that is, but decided to take his advice as he seemed to be knowledgeable. Sister can't get hold of her size, but they'd be ideal for her as she's going to iceland in a couple of months.

They are 4 season boots and are ideal for winter use with crampons but Im sure they will be good in any other condition. At full price they could be classed as an overkill as you could get something for £40 - £60 to suit your needs and thats probably why he said that.

I have heard some use them year round, of course it's possible but these are definitely better for higher altitudes at colder times of the year.

The stiffness of the sole is really the reason why they would be probably not great for paths and low level stuff, but these boots would take any winter with aplomb.

You don't have to go uber lightweight for the summer months but a bit more sole flexibility would be good for the more mundane stuff... 2 pairs of different boots would cover you year round...poss 3 if finances could take it

Thanks! I did think the sole was very rigid, no flexibility what so ever which I'm not used to, and I wasn't used to the roll when moving from heel to toe, they seemed rather high, but they were very comfortable. I think I took his advice mainly because, if I was in any other store they'd have tried to sell them me whether they were right for the job or not, talking me out of a potential £200 sale is very genuine of them. He said walking on flats for 30 minutes I'd feel the discomfort as my feet would naturally want to flex but the boot wouldn't let them.

I'm not sure if to buy them for winter, and for the days when I do more than just hill walking, but not sure I'd be able to afford another 'every day' pair as well. Not really sure which boots I should be looking for now, I guess my old boots will last me a few more months before another deal pops up!

my other boots are the scarpa sl activ, I had intended them for winter but obv with this deal on I got these...which will now be my winter boots.

the activ's are def more flexible, but still an incredibly sturdy boot so there's a good chance i'll get a 3rd for the proper summer days... having said that, they are definitely more suitable than the manta's for year round use, and if i did get a 3rd boot, it won't be anywhere near as expensive as these.

my old boots were karrimor ksb skye event lined and i wore them year round, but always low level, i may buy another pair of something similiar for the summer months circa 40-60 ish quid.

Karrimor have been bought out since by sports direct but on the whole i dont think i have heard much negative considering so they may be a choice for you something along those lines/// my old karrimors really were quite superb boots and never leaked over their entire life.

I'm comparing it to TNF Lynx (read a few good reviews): http://www.wiggle.co.uk/the-north-face-lynx-sleeping-bag/?lang=en&curr=GBP&dest=1&utm_source=pla&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=uk&kpid=5360454427

Have you ever considered a lobotomy?
Yes, but I would have to go privately as it would be the third time... ;)
Have you ever considered a lobotomy?
Quality sleeping bags always get a bad wrap on HUKD. Probably because most people in the UK don't do much outdoor stuff. These bags are for people who do a lot of outdoor activity,eg. hiking in the Alps, a lot of travelling etc. Not simply going to a festival in the summer. So you will need a light weight bag that does not take up all the space in your backpack and will keep you warm a -4 C. If you have ever spent a whole night awake because it too cold to sleep, £100 seems like a good investment especially if you consider these bags could last you 10 years.

Is this better than the last micro light rab that was on here last time, I ordered that and it looked like a shiny bin bag I had to send it back, I'm not a brand freak, but I do have a north face which is the best I ever had , previous Down jkts have been berghaus Rohan etc,

Can see the appeal for people counting the grams in a ruck sack but that's it.

The microlight jackets are great technical layers for the UK considering that we rarely have weather cold enough to warrant wearing a jacket like the one on this thread, but they look poorly styled in my opinion especially in the metallic colours. The fabric on most Rab jackets is slightly shiny, since it is heavily waterproofed pertex, so I would recommend dark non-metallic colours if you want to wear it socially.

I have the infinity endurance, and it is the best down jacket I have ever owned by miles. It is just warmer, lighter, fits better and feels far less bulky that others I have tried or had in the past. Rab were founded, and built their reputation on specialist down manufactured climbing equipment. In my opinion, their other equipment is good, but their down gear is what distinguishes them.

Would this be too big to use as a keyring, just I've got an old carabiner keyring that's been great, but is a bit worn out now?

Too big unless you have very big pockets.

These are lovely small karabiners, and a really good price on them as well.

?

I'm confused, what are you trying to say? That it isn't small? It's one of the smallest screw gates available.
