The cable often goes for more so good price

Not bad at all.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone seen a decent price for this without the cable (already got 2014 with, think they're identical?)

If its still there, Cash Generator in Leeds city centre had one of these for £9.99 if its still there. Not worth a wild goose chase, but if you work in the centre, its worth a quick look in lunch break.

Slightly tempted to go and grab it, but I think everyone will have spotted it now :p

To answer your questions,
Yes, it's the same USB cable that comes with the PC/PS3 and 360 versions. Both the original and 2014 use the same cable.

I have the original Rocksmith as well as Rocksmith 2014. No problems what so ever.

For those who're wondering where to get a cheap cable, try the international ebay sites. I got mine for £18 inc postage, came from Canada...

Like you, I got my copy via steam. Of course there wasn't any cable with it.
If you're a PC user, you can use one of the 'patches' that let's Rocksmith use the sound card in your PC. You'll need to get a 1/4 to 3.5mm jack adapter from Maplin for a couple of quid. Then just plug the jack adapter into your Mic/Line on your PC, and then your guitar cable. You should be good to go.
Of course you won't get the updates via steam, but it should tide you over until you can get the official cable.

The original Rocksmith was great for what it did, but it's menus let it down. I really didn't like the menus and it felt really awkward trying to navigate them, let alone when you've got a guitar strapped across your chest too. Luckily Rocksmith 2014 fixes all the issues I had with the original, and you can import the rest of the songs from Rocksmith to Rocksmith 2014. A lot of songs that are pretty much DLC in Rocksmith 2014. So I'd say grab Rocksmith 2014 solo and use Rocksmith with Cable as the the cheap way to get a cable.

To sum up a wonderful post, in short buy this just for the cable :) and the added tracks, pick up solus Rocksmith 2014 and you are in for the win :)

Great deal, been watching this item myself for a while now and this is a fantastic price for new. Much better than the Zavvi deal for the 2014 edition which is never, ever in stock.

Have some heat!

Paid less than this over a year ago. From what I've heard, it's better to go straight to 2014 anyway as it's much improved.

The cables are the same for 2013 and 2014.

might as well just buy this for the extra songs and a spare cable then, rather than bother looking for a solus original Rocksmith?

Well I originally bought the 2014 "with cable" when Zavvi had it, but obviously they mislead and sent it solus. Couldnt be bothered to argue with them muppets. So just waiting for a good deal on the cable. In the meantime, steam sale came up so bought the original as well. To be honest not had time to play it yet, but I think I need to buy the cable. GAME had it on their website for £5 out of stock for ages!!
