Next cheapest is £28.99 @ HMV so that's a £19 saving. Not seen it (yet) myself but this series is supposed to be rather good action/comedy. The series comes on 7 discs constituting around 650 mins of anime goodness.

"In Japan, a novelist is dealing with writer's block after her friend goes missing. In Hong Kong, three sisters who are masters in the use of paper, run their own detective agency. When these people are brought together a bond greater than blood is formed; a bond that will be sorely tested by the evil powers intent on taking over the world. Join Anita, Maggie, Michelle, and Nenene as they travel the globe in order to save the world from the evil mastermind, Mr. Carpenter. Of course, this is if they can find the time to put down the books they are reading?"

I wonder why they aren't doing the £3.99 deals anymore? It's a shame they don't offer more recent Anime in these deals... I'm dying for Occult Academy.

The £3.99 offers were on 3 disc sets with lower RRP's, I guess they might do some more. The most recent they've had on their weekly specials so far was Starship Operators (came out here in 2009).

Occult Academy isn't even licensed over here yet afaik, you can watch it (legally) on crunchyroll.com through.

Yeah huge contrast with most reviews of ROD which are around 8-9/10.

What sort of stuff you into? Might be able to recommend something.....

FMA and Hellsing are my two favourite series.

got all of the originals, plus the new re-imaginings. :)

Gurren Lagann is awesome and is coming out on Anime Legends soon. It can be pre-ordered at around £18 for the lot (the individual parts are more than that currently, and there are 3 parts).

Cowboy bebop is also excellent (but pricey), as is Samurai Champloo (same studio) which can be had for the bargain price of £17.99: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?sku=587348.

Just who the hell do you think i am!

Thanks Mega, i do know about crunchyroll.com already but its great info for those that dont.

To be fair, there aren't many Anime titles of note that i dont already own in one form or another, that's why im always chomping at the bit for some newly released goodness.

Decent series, but not as god as the OVA's

I haven't watched ROD the TV; I've seen the ROD OVA - certainly the best 'steam punk' anime I've seen; although I think ROD the TV is a little different and, from what I remember reading a little echi.

I've gotta agree with that.

Really? Hadn't heard that. I'm told it starts off rather different to the (excellent) OVA and gradually introduces links, themes and ultimately characters from the OVA, but it gets darker than the OVA ever did.

The storyline include the British Library being a secret agency and for this reason I would recommend this anime to anyone in the UK with no doubt.

I checked and it's not echi - I guess I'd got the wrong impression from the images used at some anime sites - I know there's a nude scene (not done for fanservice apparently) so I'd probably jumped to conclusions...

Scripting the British Library as a secret agency was a genius idea; I really liked the British Library scenes and their steam-punk technology in the OVA.

Phew, glad you got it wrong I've ordered it to watch with the other half! Lol. Actually the more I read about this the more I'm looking forward to it arriving.

Lots of other cracking Anime deals around too:
...
...
Especially the Death Note one, I think that's by far the cheapest it's been and it's a pretty good size set.

Death Note was £17.95 before Christmas at Zavvi (I know 'cos I posted the deal) - but an extra £1.10+ off is a really good price.

Remember the Hut have those SS2, SS4 and SS5 vouchers (save £2 on £20 spend etc.); so buy more anime and save a little extra ;)

Another special here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/mahoromatic-something-more-beautiful-complete-collection-dvd-4-99-rrp-29-99-anim/911387 - Wombat, this one is definitely a bit ecchi.
