What update is sky doing to Now TV Op?

Edit: Found it....didn't know that. Not Good. I never used plex but did sideload the media viewer to play movies directly via USB.

I picked one of these up today from Argos, as an upgrade to a older Roku.
Quick review: Much faster than the old one, with access to much more modern versions of the apps that matter.

Yes I have one of these and much admit its highly impressive, I love it, I replaced a NowTV Box with one of these purely for some specific Roku Apps that you cannot install on NowTV Boxes, the Roku App & Channel Base is fantastic, the BEST by far, I paid £39.99 about 1 month ago, its works perfectly well and I can still enjoy NowTV to, the only drawback is that its always on stand-by and you cannot switch it off unless you unplug the power cable, of course this is not so much of an issue but is a little power-hog, why these boxes do not come with a power-off switch is beyond me.

These things use very little power. The beauty of them is that they are always on, so that there is no waiting for them to switch on.

If you use this in a hotel room do you need an internet connection to cast content from a tablet?

Just curious about this - I have a Roku for ages and can't find anything worth watching on the Roku channels - what am I missing?

Surely easier using Kodi on a non brand android box?

Is this because the new Roku players are out soon?

depends what you want i guess, this box does much more than Kodi.

After Sky effectively bricked 4 NowTV boxes for me I looked for alternatives. After finding out how much of a stake Sky have in Roku, I jumped onto Chromecast. Plex works incredibly well, much better than on my NowTV boxes.

Do you have a good link explaining the difference between the two for novices?

Can you watch free premiership football, latest movies and show on this as you can on an kodi android box?

No, but you wouldn't buy this for that - I find this handy for NowTV/Amazon Prime and Netflix all on one box.

Kodi is an app on things like android tv boxes, xbox, etc. When you first install it, it's a basic media player app, but it can be customised with "add-ons" that let you stream films and live tv channels from the internet. It can be used for legal purposes but mostly, people get kodi to stream films and watch channels such as sky sports for free (illegally). The Roku box is more for legal means of streaming... BBC iPlayer, Demand5, 4OD, Netflix, Amazon Prime, NowTV etc. etc.

For novices, I'd recommend a Roku as its really plug and play. Kodi requires quite a good bit of setup and over time will require updating and tinkering with streaming sources, add-on installs etc. It's really geared more toward tech-capable folks.

I'd class myself as a tech-geek and even I got fed-up with Kodi, having to try several streams before a film would play, finding an source that went offline just before or during a game etc. It's great when it works but often in my experience, the times you really need it to work, something usually went wrong and we ended up watching something on Netflix or Amazon Prime instead.

Isn't an Amazon Fire box or stick a better bet than one of these. It has access to most of the streaming services and for those who want to you can side load Kodi.

Yes you would. Look at IPTV services that include 3pm kick offs etc. You will pay for this service but they are a lot more reliable than trawling your Kodi streams for a watchable one.

Fair enough, don't use them.
