Seems like a Firestick would be better value as you can run a lot more on it (including Kodi) although it's now back up to £39.99

Not really. Not everyone wants to use Kodi, and are perfectly happy with legit streaming services like Netflix, Amazon and Now TV. The Roku has the advantage over the Firestick/Fire TV of having access to Now TV.

I agree. Plus a lot of us also use Plex, which is compatible with the FireStick!

Was tempted until I found out you need to register a debit or credit card to even get beyond the setup screen, completely ruins it in my opinion

If you're still tempted... go ahead and buy one - Roku provides an alternative sign-up page on their website for those (like you) who would rather not provide payment information when registering for their Roku account. You'll find it here:-

Roku Sign-Up (Without Need for Credit Card / Payment Info)

Forget the warning message (about the need for payment info) on the first page and continue with the sign-up process.

When you get onto the second page, scroll down (past all the boxes asking for your info) and hit the "Skip" button towards the bottom of the page... then you can finish registering without giving any payment details! ;-)

N.B. You can always add payment information at a later date (if need be) to pay for an app or subscription... plus, once added, they give you the option to remove your payment information afterwards, too. This means, anyone who did provide their details (but might want to remove them, for whatever reason) can simply login to their Roku account and delete the information whenever they like! :-)

Before you go ahead and purchase it from Currys or PC World, however, you might want to try Tesco or Amazon - both are selling the Roku Streaming Stick (HDMI Version) [Model: 3500EU] for only £29.00 meaning you'll have an extra pound in your pocket (okay, 99p, but still... close enough!) - here's the links:-

Roku Streaming Stick (HDMI Version) [Model: 3500EU] via Amazon UK
