Also has Amazon Prime, Now TV and Google Play built in....

It's a good price. does anyone know if the wireless remote for this works with the current Roku 2/3? it's different from the roku 3 remote and the 2 remote uses IR.
#3
Anyone know how the performance/speed on this compares with the original (white) and new (black) Now TV boxes?

Thats a good point but this does much more than nowtv boxes
#5
it will be a lot slower than the black nowtv boxes - those are lightning fast. I have not compared the stick to the white boxes.

Good price but I'd rather have android/google play/kodi compatible stick. One of the reviews says can't get even get BBC radio!

This is an excellent, I replaced a now tv smart box with this and Imo this is head and shoulders better than it.
it has now tv, prime tv and Netflix, and all work well. only slight negative is uv films will be hard to watch soon when wuaki tv drops support for them.

Slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I hated it, I'll get a Roku 2 at the next sale.

got one and it's slow; ok for the basic apps but netflix and youtube crawl. Obviously as most of the time you are only viewing it's ok once it gets going.

If you look at the wiki for roku this has same processor as the older rokus from 2011/2012.

You never thought it might be your broadband connection!

I have two of these, it's not as fast as an Amazon or NowTV box, however it is fast enough and has all the apps I need, no other brand does (i need netflix, amazon and now). Give it a chance, it seems to speed up after a few uses but is slow the first time.

It's £20 in stores that aren't ranged for it where there's remaining stock. The Roku Streaming Stick was a seasonal stock line in most stores after Christmas.

The faster Roku 3600 stick was released about a year ago in the states but still hasn't made its way over here unfortunately...

broadband is fine; the processor can't cope with the netflix and youtube UI as they have a lot of stuff going on.The basic roku apps work as you expect. As I said once your streaming it's fine and streams in 1080p. It works it's just sluggish.

Same netflix and youtube apps are absolutely fine on my ps3.

EDIT: Just to add I'm perfectly happy with it as it's the cheapest way to get all the big streaming services. The only disappointment is the sluggishness of it.

exactly agree with this - this is the only box to support the big 3 paid for streaming services

and as said it is fast enough!

I'm completely new to this kind of thing.

Is it like an Amazon Firestick? And are there charges for subsequent films or TV shows that you want to watch?

Cheers.

so long as your Samsung TV has HDMI then yes

the wifi connection is made by the Roku stick - not the TV

similar!

but you cannot install Kodi on this :p

you can use it for the free catch up services like iPlayer / ITV Player etc

but for the likes of Netflix / Now TV / Amazon Prime then yes you need to pay for these services

Ordered but apparently it doesn't get power from the tv , it's mains charger from the other end , but I have seen a mini USB cable to connect to the Tv which would look tidier

Be careful with some of these Tesco so called refurbs. I bought one of these Roku sticks last week from Tesco, a grade C refurb for £19. The remote will not pair with the Roku, I've tried everything possible, but it looks like a dead remote as there is no green light indicator at all, and Roku UK so far have been totally redundant in their support.

I also bought one of there 8" Connect pads a few weeks back and that was not working either. After about 10 attempts to get it to boot, it did then switched off and wouldn't boot again.

Tesco say that all their refurb/second user items are refurbed by their pro technical staff. I do find this claim hard to believe as I've had two items out of two, that have both had easily identifiable technical issues, which would easily have been seen by anyone let alone a tec person.

Although they don't mess you around with a refund and are extremely fast at re-crediting your PayPal account, something I find admirable. I would be prepared for the possibility of being let down, wasting time chasing issues, or even both.

The stick is real quick and good for stuff like Netflix and Amazon etc. I've had a couple and if you only intend on using it for the obvious streaming apps , then it's probably not worth looking at any other Roku devices, as the stick is easily good enough for the basic video streaming apps.

Before buying one, from anywhere, do a Google or YouTube search for 'Roku Streaming stick remote pairing problem'. There can be some real headaches pairing the remote, as it uses a form of problematic P2P wifi, unlike the infrared on most of their devices.

Set it up today all went well and didn't need to input any card/Paypal details got the app on the phone also . At 1st there was no sound but after research I just tried another hdmi and it worked . Also you don't need to power cable you just plug the micro usb back into a USB on the tv, happy days and also works on an oldish lg in the bedroom

Good price but I'd rather have android/google play/kodi compatible stick. One of the reviews says can't get even get BBC radio!
There's a way to stream BBC radio, install the Tunein radio app on the Roku. Can even sync your favourite channels with the Tunein phone app. You can even use BBC Radio iPlayer via the TV Cast app, navigate to the catch up radio prog you want on phone, play it through the Roku. Ditto for many TV streaming services. Mind you Amazon Fire stick can do these things too.

If you use a smartphone and app like TV Cast to start the stream, all of BBC Radio iPlayer is available. Meanwhile for live radio, BBC, commercial and and from around the world, install Tunein app on the Roku which will work from its remote.

Also using the YouTube app on your phone to kick off YouTube streams on the Roku is very slick.
