I've not found Rolson stuff to be particularly good quality.

It''ll be dark when you're doing it so it shouldn't matter too much :) By all accounts it will be dark again in lots less than five minutes so you have plenty of private time to practise your five knuckle shuffle.

Brought one of these about 4 yrs ago and its still going...not bright but really good to keep somewhere like in a car if you ever need a torch

well worth the money!

Not as good as a proper torch but ok in an emergency

I must admit, this looks a lot safer than the other ones advertised on here lately. You have to put your John Thomas into those! ;) I don't think they lit up though with vigorous shaking...

I guess this one would be good for keeping your 'hand' in, as it were. Groan...

I have what looks like the same torch, mine has a couple of coin 'watch' batteries inside it as well as the shakey charger bit... in my mind the batteries which are litium ion appear to power the torch rather than any shaking I do

Could be different on this version of course.

Same here,It was good to start off with then gradually got dimmer and dimmer even after shaking.Decided to take it apart and found 2x button cell batteries inside and the coil wasn't even conneced to anything....so I could have gone on forever shaking the dam thing.

I can confirm that these are a con. They do indeed have non-rechargeable coin cells inside and shaking creates a minuscule amount of electricity. It's a Trades Desriptions Act job. "Simply shake for 15-30 seconds this will generate upto five minutes of bright light" is a lie. Cold.

PS Who broke this site? Can't edit my post. Can't switch off avatars. Can't stay logged in. Can't multiquote. What a disastrous makeover!

A lot of members of this site will be accustomed to that action anyway...

Had one before, not that great. Ok for stroing in the car boot or glovebox for emergency use but mine broke after a little use the switch fell off. Your better off with a wind up or just a proper torch, or one that plugs into the cig lighter power supply.

Received a similar one as a gift 4 years ago. Not sure who made it, but only has one bright LED. Needs a lot of vigorous shaking to get some light that does not last long at all. So I don't really use it now, as in an emergency the last thing you would want to be doing is to keep shaking this thing instead of attending the emergency (ie. flat tyre needing a wheelchange)!

I might go to tesco and test these out before buying as hopefully with time they have improved in technology.

As has already been pointed out more than once, these contain non-rechargeable batteries so "testing" them in the shop won't tell you anything about how they will perform once you have exhausted these batteries.
