I will assume they are selling them cheap nationwide, as the have 'Watch the world cup in HD!' on them. Looks like a bargain, contains dish, set-top box, HDMI cable (generous) and some sat cable..

Here is the old post from the summer

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/ross-hd-satellite-kit-69-00-b-q/688171

Was going to buy one, I was waiting till the price dropped, but some oik stole my bike so i have to save for a new one :(

Could you just use the box with your sky dish?
#12
plenty in Lincoln. said 2 USB inputs for watching pics etc. Ideal for FTA HD content. Am tempted just for the box.

Was gonna ask the same question, can I just unplug my standard sky box and connect this HD receiver up instead to received all the freeview HD channels, as the dish will already be pointing at the astra satellite?
#14
mmmmmm very tempted will check my local store tommorow
#15
it appears you can connect to sky dish....

have just read thru this, link is to last page, but advice is given at a few points previous, that you can:

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/109/33654808-b-q-satellite-ross-freesat-box-page-12.html

You should receive all the Free to Air channels using this receiver. If your dish is used for Sky then it will point to Astra already.
You will then then be able to view Free to Air channels:
BBC HD
ITV1 HD
and Soon:
BBC One HD

These are available Free to Air on satellite.
Freeview HD is the Terrestrial system using the standard aerial.
#17
I forgot
Luxe TV HD
is also Free to Air, but not to everyone's taste.

Better to buy a real freesat box for the same price if you already have the dish. Then you get a 7 day EPG and BBC iPlayer.

for the same price?

Yes, Argos regularly have them for £50 (although not at the moment), but I bet other places have them. A stall at Leeds market has loads at £25 each.
I got mine from Argos for £50 in February.

ok if you can one on offer from argos but i think you're pushing it a bit with leeds market!

Picked mine up just around 20 left in B&Q Bilston :D

can't really see how on this model,as most sports and xxx channels are encrypted, you would need a viewing card, don't even think this has a card or cam slot.

cheers

Will not work, even if it has a card slot, which I doubt.

my friend did pay £70 about a week ago so £20 off is really good and it is a good kit too

Thanks for this. Had just bought the SD version from Homebase for 50 quid as a gift for my ma, then did a bit of searching and found this link. Rang up B&Q in Eltham but it was 80 quid, then tried Greenwich where it was 50! So returned the SD one and picked up the HD.
All set up at the ma's house now - just need to point it to some satellite and being a bit of a cheapskate today I don't have a finder...looks like I'll have to enlist the help of a mate...
And yes, it has a sticker mentioning the World Cup on it hence the price I guess.

One note - according to the manual you can stick a USB drive in the single slot in the back to record stuff. That's a few steps away from where I am at the moment!
