last day at this price though

sorry to sound a bit igronant, but am I correct in understanding that if I connect the wire coming in from our sky dish into this box I will start getting the HD channels and some of the 350 channels from around the world ?????
#3
You can get BBC HD & ITV HD with a Freesat box attached to that wire too - and the BBC/ITV 'normal' channels + a Freeview(ish) range. I use Freeview instead of paying Sky and because Freeview isn't available here yet.

Nice price for this OP

Nice One, Was Gonna Get The One From Screwfix A Bit Ago And That Was £80, This Is £20 Cheaper And Will Cost Me £40 For Fitting The Satellite. Nice Find.

Am I right that theres only actually BBC HD and ITV HD on this service? Freeview HD (although not broadcasting in my area until next year) will carry more.
#7
Can you just get the box?

this is good to watch the world cup in HD

though freeview HD will have more HD channels than freesat HD

as far as i'm aware there are no plans for any more hd channells on freesat
#10
So what HD channels will you get with this box? ITV 1 HD BBc HD Channel 4 HD????
#11
Thanks. I think if I am get HD I'll just wait for the Freeview HD as I have a wicked signal on that and its all ready to roll when they pull their fingers out.

You get channel 4 HD on Freeview HD, which you don't get free via satellite. So only 1 extra channel at the moment.
The satellite kit can get other crap HD channels like Luxe HD ( though i would rather have channel 4 myself)

The whole free HD tv service is not great at the moment, but will obviously improve, especially as Freeview HD rolls out ( due to lots more people watching it).

REMEMBER THIS KIT IS NOT FREESAT....... You won't get the 7 day epg and the standard channel list that freesat offers ( though you should be able to tune in all those channels)
#16
channel 4 HD should be coming to freesat HD sometime in the future, according to the person in charge of freesat. But just when this will happen is anyones guess

That said.. I left sky and they dropped me a latter saying free sky sports for a year using the code SPORT12 (or something like that)

(You get sky sports HD if you pay additional 10 quid a month to get HD Subscription)

Do I understand correct that this satellite box is only for 1 satellite and it will not work with more than 1 satellite to receive signal from multiple dishes pointed to various satellites???
Thanks!
#20
Any idea if there's a list of what channels we could potentially get using this? Not necessarily HD channels I mean - just wondering if it's worth getting this long-term, not just for the world cup.

/edit: Ah, does that freesat list show all/most of the channels?

Correct, unless you buy a motorised dish.

It will only function on one satellite.

To be honest, you would be better off buying a proper Freesat Receiver than this one, just connect it to a Sky Dish.

From Main Menu choose ‘Add Satellite’

It has DiseqC. So it is capable of multi LNBs or dishes. Below is from the Ross site. Remember you can record HD onto a USB stick/HD. Most of the Freeview sets will be way above £200-00 if you want to record. Unless someone knows of a freeview HD that will record HD onto a USB stick/HD.

Type Satellite name ‘Eurobird 1’ in table.
Longitude type in ’28.5’
LNB Freq L type in ‘05150’
LNB Freq H type in ‘11300’
22k tone OFF
DiseqC OFF
DiseqC1.2 OFF
#23
Is the dish good enough to pick up UK channels from southern france / central europe?

Thank you! Then it is not bad if you can get for this price. Would be roasting if the box had CAM and CI slots though :-)

Highly unlikely, depending on location, an 80 cm would be the minimum size required, probably larger, depending on location.

Remember, that Freeview HD is only available in some parts of the country at the moment.
#29
Freesat does offer better future possibilities. Currently FreeviewHD has 3 channels but a maximum of 5. Each Freeview multiplexer can handle only 5 channels. Satellite has the possibilty of considerabley more in the future. Freesat are currently looking at adding more but it does cost them a lot.

Wrong ;-)

Luxe TV is coming soon, so is Five shortly after it's launched on Sky

Bearing in mind that this box is "not" a freesat box, it's free to air, you'll get all the UK channels if you point it at the Astra Sats at 28.2E, but theres loads more european satellite's up there, most of them have their beam aimed at central europe so this is easy to pickup using a 60cm dish.

If you think you can pick up 1000's of channels like the box says then you need a little bit of knowledge on Satellites as you need to get the dish setup bang on otherwise it wont work.

If you have an existing sky dish it should be pointing at the Astra sats at 28.2E so if will get all the free to air channels that is called "freesat" in the UK.

Don't forget if you point it at something like 13 Degrees east you'll pick up Europe HD channels too, be it they might be french or german though.

The Old Astra dishes used to be aimed at 19.2E which is now used for europe services.

If your going to be finding the these satellites you'll need a compass and satellite finder/meter.

Better to find Astra 28.2E first then mark on the bracket the positions etc.

Hope this helps someone.

Can i use my "Pay once watch forever" sky card using this box?

No, it doesn't have a card slot.

Even if it did, it still wouldn't work.
#36
Is this like a replacement for Freesat HD? If so, why would you want this instead of the standard Freesat HD box? Just asking out of interest not arguing since I don't know much about this stuff.
#37
this is a cheap way into hd viewing, it records bbchd to a usb harddrive , great price for this
#38
I am tempted by this, as the HD Virgin box is £49.99, but they don't say how much for Installation.

the facts are

freesat has 2 HD channels

freeview has 3 HD channels (where you can get it)

you get channel 4 HD on freeview however as far as i'm aware they have no plans to launch on freesat (until sky contract finishes - could be 12 months, 24 months etc etc)

have a look at digital spy forums for more info (i can't when i'm on this comp)

edit - i'm not dissing this deal - its a great deal for HD world cup football
