According to this forum post it appears so. This refers to the route 66 mini but it should be the same software.

http://www.gpsunderground.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2321

"on the SD card rename the folder route66 to any youre choosed name
then make a new folder route66 copy the tomtom windows ce 5.0 software in there

rename navigator.exe to r66n8.exe and copy it with new name r66navigate8.exe so the two files are the same only the name differs. if you forget one of them it might not accept i experience.

install maps in the root of the sdcard and activate it with the keygen.

insert the sd card in R66 mini it then automaticly start tomtom, follow install procedures and then select the gps

gps is com2 baud rate 38400

then it should all work fine !

Goodbye R66, hello tomtom !"

Yes but it takes abit of faffing around...http://www.gpsunderground.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2321

If you want the latest speed camera database on any device then look here to see if its compatible...http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras#compat

Thing is with the Route 66 range they may be good @ what they do BUT if you want to add extra things or modify them then they tend to be left wanting compared to alot of other cheap units.

if you can load Windows CS, then yes.

Should be able to, can with the Mini Route 66

just a query (I don't own a dedicated sat nav & have only used it recently on my nokia phone)
Why buy a sat nav unit & then install tomtom? Why is tomtom so highly regarded/desired?

Thanks, went for one of these because the people who like Route 66 seem to REALLY like the brand. So worth a go at this price.

That's with the Euopean mapping but same box.
#17
Was gonna get this as a Christmas present but reviews aren't too favourable for it..

.. am in Ireland too, so no clue how map coverage is.

Anyone own it recommend it?
#18
its supposed to be ok, but if you are used to TomTom or iGo you might find it lacks some features.

You can always change the software if you feel like a change :)

overall its a good unit at a good price

Tempted to get one- Had a bad experience with the RAC 200 (Overhauled) from Amazon 1 week ago refund pending. Currently using my old Orange SPV3100 OEM HTC Tytn and a BT66 GPS running TT6.1. It is reliable and gives Handset 6hrs continuous use and GPS receiver 18hrs continuous use from one charge. But I prefer a dedicated unit to minimise the amount of units to carry around.
#22
gone for one ,thanks

Route 66 has a great store were you can buy and update maps. You can download it off their website. Hot deal .
#24
Got one of these earlly last year from Halfords. Quite hard to get to windows ce and you lose on/off button functionality, requiring a reset to turn off. Miomap is excellent on it and TomTom 7.95 works too. Windows 5 CE

By the way battery is crap, when not on charge you get maybe 15 mins if you're lucky. I now use one of the bluetooth/fm/turbodog units from eBuyer. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146673

I had a bad experience with the RAC200 as well, had glue all over it and screen scratched to bits, couldnt believe it, gone for this instead, but very annoyed with Amazon :x

No, why would you expect that? It's a speed camera database. It is worth supporting though as they provide monthly updates.

New maps are expensive, not far off the price of a new unit in some instances> might be worth waiting for Garmin to do a special offer. I have a Tom Tom and they occasionally do discounts.

I bought a 300 which came in quite good condition. Amazon offered refund or a 20% discount, not very generous but to be honest the unit running iGo8 is spot on. The battery is good and it has a 400mhz processor. I notice this Route 66 unit is only 266Mhz so presumably it is slower.

Heyy,

Does this have a headphone jack (just to use on a motorbike), don't really wanna be spending huge sums£ on the Bike-adapted Tom Tom.

Does anyone know a satnav which could headphones, so much easier to just hear the instructions, instead of taking time to focus on the screen, on a bike, will never be in an ideal position.

Would be so thankful for anyones help!
#29
Is there a website for this company? I have found route66.com but they only list their mobile software packages. Why would a company not show their own hardware on its site?
#30
why would you want to put tomtom on here when you can get a tomtom one for a little over £50...lol... there are some mad heads about.........

No headphone jack.

Tops ordered. Again one of those who ended up with one of those used RAC 300 units on Amazon, so sent back. How for a £5:00 more I will have a new unit, without the RAC advertising.Pleased

Out of stock now - fortunately, I ordered one some hours back. Hopefully they have enough stock to fulfill my order!

"Swiss designed Made in China" -Is that a headphone socket?

www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/904343258X

Even though it's out of stock still order it if you want one -Amazon must be expecting more stock or they'd have removed it.

www.66.com

The userguide is there but no real info on the machine, which isn't surprising as it's an old machine and maybe this was a licensed item only and made by someone else. Won't be the first time something like this disappears off the market. Amazon.co.uk will handle any claims anyway. I reckon £70 would be the correct price for this looking around so £44.99 is great when you consider its nice looks, good reviews and upgradibility if you prefer TomTom.

I'll be giving Route66's own system a spin first as I remember it a few years back and I liked it. I guess we'll not know what we'll get until it arrives. There seems to be several "Maxi" versions and maybe some are more bare bones.

Bit large compared to the mini-USB for a reset. Looks like an artist's impression anyway. I'll -very slowly- read that French site to see what they have to say or try a bulk BabelFish translation
