Never been. can anyone advise how to make the best of it? Are enclosures worth the extra? What happens to tickets if the weather is poor?

"All Air Tattoo general admission tickets must be bought in advance" ??

Maybe they just mean in advance to turning up?
#9
Yes, for the last couple of years you haven;t been able to buy tickets on the gate. Ever since the Sunday was forecast to be a washout so eveyone (me included) turned up and used their tickets on The saturday.

The enclosures are generally not worth the money, I';ve done two of them. Best get there early with your deckchairs and coolbox. And waterproofs of course.
#10
That's a good saving.
Missed last year but looks like I'll be going this (_;)
Voted hot.

Went for the first time about 6 years ago - son was into aircraft!

Have been back every year since and I usually avoid big crowd events. There's wall to wall action in the air from 9.00am to 6.00pm and 2 miles (or might be 3!) of static runway displays - if its military and it flies its usually at RIAT somewhere.
Get there for about 8.30am (beats the traffic jam) then be prepared to be entertained into the evening. Take a chair and a picnic and your made for the day.

great price for tickets

breitling watchs normally have a stand if you own a watch or are with some one with one of there watch's you can get in there lounge and garden, have a few free drinks some times get a free cap and most of the pilots hang about there and you get a good view.

Awesome, this discounted price was enough to make it worth giving this a shot again after the 2009 mess (car parks became waterlogged forcing a 6am cancel of the event on the Saturday morning.....that they only communicated on the website and via the local radio....which was fun when you got stuck in the traffic). Up til then did this every year since 1995.

Its good fun, just be prepared for a long day, travel early, and bring your own food if you want to save money. We normally just buy some stuff as it's only two of us but if you have kids and don't bring stuff then you get seriously gouged. Weather is usually okay, 2009 was a bit of an exception.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm off with the family. Afterburners are awesome!

So I should buy that £4.99 breitling aviator watch from the dodgy dude on the market & my mates & me will get in free for defo?

Been last couple of years and its an excellent day ... though from experience last year need to arrive early (clearly had forgotten what time I set out the precious year and left it too late and spent 2 hours in the final 5 mile queue to get in!).

Highlight last 2 years has been the Vulcan ... amazing sight and sound. Red Arrows are great + get to see a B52 take-off fly past and landing. Last year had the new US fighter jet ... its display was great but that was surpassed by the USAF commentator who not only had his enthusiam/hype turned up to 11 but then clearly decided this was far too understated and pushed it up several notches from their.

As commented above loads of static aircraft ... be prepared to walk loads - display is about 1-2 miles long!

And for those who don't like planes (why have they come?) there's probably a stage somewhere which features minor acts form Britains got Talent/X-factor etc ... not that I've ever found it!

It's you +1 but who knows if it looks good enough it might get you in to there lounge.....

You still need a ticket to get you in to the airshow just they normally have a tent and garden for owners

Back in 2000, before the world started blowing up, they had a B2 Stealth Bomber flyover, which was awesome. Since then I don't believe it has appeared in the UK in a airshow capacity, but it was easily one of the most awe inspiring things to see a plane do, it just flew overhead at low altitude, very very quiet, with two F16 chase planes flanking either side. Hoping they have an F22 this year as missed last year, or a JSF.
