The brand was introduced in 1998 by Russian Standard, a company founded in 1992 by the businessman Rustam Tariko. The new product quickly established itself in the Russian premium vodka market as the first luxury brand with a Russian—as opposed to Soviet—identity.[1]
Two years after launch Russian Standard Original surpassed all imported premium vodkas on the Russian market. A broad international expansion was then launched. The Russian Standard Platinum was introduced in 2001, and the luxury brand Imperia in 2004.[2]
In 2005, global sales passed the 1,000,000 case mark.
In 2006, a new $60 million state-of-the-art distillery was opened in Saint Petersburg. The distillery occupies an area of 30,000 square meters. The facility produces 4 million cases per year, at a rate of 22,500 bottles per hour

Smirnoff is a truly awful vodka, this is far superior, of course that is just my opinion :p

Anything that is produced in quantities of over 20,000 bottles an hour has to taste like Paint Stripper! Oh wait its for Vodka, it does! :P

Better than Smirnoff, Absolut and definitely Stolichnaya. Not as good as Goose and Kettle One.
#13

If it's any comfort, you are not alone. I don't like it either. I'd rather have Absolut. But you can also buy me Grey Goose, or especially Ciroc, which is isn't even made from grain or potato.
#15
Looks like this thread has been well and truly "goosed" lol

Same here, I think it tastes harsh.

All the talk of best vodka etc. is pretty much useless everybody has a different opinion, even the experts cant agree, the only thing they do agree on is that Smirnoff is terrible :-p.

Other than that the rankings chop and change between all the usual suspects depending on who you talk to.

End of the day its cheap for this brand so hot.

This stuff is good but I'd recommend to anyone who really likes vodka to try http://www.zubrowka.com/ - Polish bison grass vodka ;)

Nad 84, nice profile pic. I DJ'd at the launch party of that album. Cracking bargain at this price.

Isn't Smirnoff an English vodka trying to advertise itself as Russian? Smirnoff is horrible imho regardless, RS is quite nice, even neat.

£11.50 in my co-op reduced from £13.50

Sadly some of my most treasured memories from my teen years involve Wyborowa. Haven't seen it for ages though.

Anyone ever tried Chase Vodka?

Asda stock it now. Thought i would buy some when it was £10 for a bottle. hope its not too bad :P?

Smirnoff has and always will be utter garbage that is barely any better than the likes of Vladivar, Red Square, Glens. Their marketing is just very clever.

I've found that Russian Standard is almost on a par with Absolut and Stolly.

Grey Goose, Sky etc are expensive vodkas so its hardly a fair comparison. In the Price range that Russian Standard operates, its the best.

Mmmmmm....Stoli! I love Stoli! Got a 1l bottle dirt cheap when I went on holiday to Greece. I'm drinking Absolut right now (1l bottle bought dirt cheap on holiday, too), which is also nice. Never been a Smirnoff fan. I'll have to go check this out, though.
