Buy a flight from Manchester to Dublin. You can travel out on the 6th, back on the 7th for £18.99

Ryanair flies from Terminal 1. Whilst you're at the airport, visit the new HMV in Terminal 1 - see [url]http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/manweb.nsf/Content/RETAILERHMV[url]

Pick up the PS3 deal whilst you're there.

Simples.

For SpamJavelin and friends. Of course, you're welcome to vote cold, but find me a cheaper deal for a flight to Dublin and a PS3 first... lol

And pay for accom....unless you know someone there !

If this is a Duty Free purchase at Heathrow (e.g. no V.A.T.) you need a boarding pass for a destination outside the EU (which Dublin is not). I can't see this working.

How much extra will ryanair charge you for carrying the ps3 on board? ;)

Just buy a single instead of a return flight. Than get in, get the PS3 and go back home straight away. Anyway, this is quite a strech, but I like it, so voted hot.

For the very few who just happen to want to fly to Dublin on this specific date and also purchase a PS3 then I suppose this is a good deal, however it is ridiculously convoluted for most HUKDers I suspect. Not voted either way.

Its duty on Cigarrettes and booze thats only for outside the EU, so this should be fine. However, flying from Manchester to buy a games machine seems a bit naff!

What is not clear to me is whether this price includes V.A.T.

As mentioned you can buy anything from the Duty Free except "duty free" booze and cigarettes. All places like HMV and Dixons do is reduce the purchase price by 17.5%. You actually get VAT showing on the reciept so if a business purchase can then claim the VAT back of the purchase price which has been reduced by 17.5%. If that makes sense!

You could get a one way ticket to get airside but be very careful. Many terminals do not have simple exits to go landside. I have done this before at Leeds Bradford and Stanstead and both airports required me to notify the airline I was not flying and then a staff member had to accompany me landside. At Stansted I was specifically asked if I have made any duty free purchases, which I hadn't, before they would let me go landside. They said I would have to get them refunded if I had bought anything.

Edinburgh, however, has a staircase from the mixed arrivals/departures area so you can easily go landside to make a purchase then leave the terminal. I have done this before with £5 Ryanair Tickets as you can save £50+ on high value items from Dixons. As long as it is still cheaper than buying online etc.

Actually this reminds me of when the very first iPaq launched back in 2001ish. I bought a one way EDI-Belfast on "Go" so I could buy it cheaper duty free. In the end I ended up buying a return ticket and went to Belfast with a friend. Had a great weekend but my gadget purchase ended up costing me a fortune, Lol!
