It's not a brand. Sabatier knives can be great quality, they can also be poor. Seems they can be made anywhere, by anyone. It's not a trademark.

That is very interesting. Now I have no idea if they are any good or not.

Good point , I stand corrected , I've always assumed the name was an assurance of good quality but like you've said as it's not a brand there will always be poor quality knives too (_;)

What Compadre said :)

Wiki

I'm sure these will be fine for basic kitchen tasks though - piercing the film on a ready meal, scraping the burnt bits off your toast, etc, etc ;) Just don't be fooled by the name.

Carving knife looks to have very little curve to the end of the blade, i prefer to see more of a curve as it is needed when carving close to the bone, but i guess each to his own

i have bought 6 or 7 different sizes of these from tesco over the last 8yrs and they are excellent. i know they are not professional, but the quality is fantastic and worth the extra few pounds on the likes of kitchen devil...they are all in good use daily....hot.
#17
Yes, exactly - all these things described as "professional," when they're clearly not (eg are chefs spending £4/knife at Argos, or builders spending £5 on screwdriver sets from Halfords?). It's getting really annoying. I can't assess if this is a good deal because the quality of the knives is such an unknown quantity.
#18
They look decent, for me it's whether they're still decent in 10 years time. However it's Argos and they'll take them back if not OK. I paid £50 for my Stellar set, now I feel I've been ripped off

I bought a sabatier set 5 years ago Tesco originally sold them at £50 thanks to hot deals I had them for £3.75 , wouldn't have paid full price as I agree there are different quality sets around , my knives are still fit for purpose and I would have paid £27/£20 if I needed a new set.
;) Hot from me !!

Save your cash, wait for an offer on 2/3 forged knives and they'll last forever if you take care of them.

These are too soft/mild to stay sharp, won't sharpen properly and are just a temp solution. Fine as a first set, but wouldn't put any faith in them.

1x flexible knife
1x cooks knife
1x paring knife

That's all most people need.

If you're looking for just one or two decent knives, try TK Maxx, often have Henckels, Kai Japanese and other branded ones in at well over half rrp!

Watch a load of Food Network start to feel like you're Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsey then buy these and end up at the A&E

Wonder how these compare. £25.49 after 15% is taken off with code. (halifax have it on their cashback too)

Those handles and shapes look like a good way to get carpal tunnel syndrome.

I'm always on the lookout for some good knives. What would you recommend then? In terms of brand?

EWhile the deal is definitely hot - can someone shed light on the different brands that use sabatier? There's judge sabatier, sabatier professional and a few others. Are they all the same?

So I picked up a set - the box says that sabatier professional are owned by Taylor's eyewitness, and made in China. Knives themselves feel a bit flimsy, by cut very well so I'm happy :)

mine are razor sharp and the block looks great if it is a bit light weight. hopefully they will stand test of time with sharpening, they have 20 year guarantee too which is pretty ace

Anything billed as professional and with
they’ve been specially designed to never dull down so you won’t ever need to sharpen them.
Means they will be absolute rubbish..Never trust a knife you can't sharpen, it'll be fit for the bin in literally weeks!

If you want a decent knife that will last you a lifetime and then some, go for a decent Wusthof Classic chefs knife or
a top notch Dalstrom Santoku, these will do almost any task you ask of them and you can pass them onto your kids when you leave this planet
