I've been looking for a good gps watch for a while. My friend has the 305, which is the predecessor of the 310XT. This one has many more features such as 20 hour battery, waterproof to 50m etc. I'…

I have compared both and the 310xt is much thicker and more difficult for triathlon wetsuit removal.

Also the battery only lasts 10 hours max and not the 20 hours stated. Great watch and much better than my previous forerunner.

According to https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=142&compareProduct=90671&compareProduct=27335, the 310XT is 0.2" shorter in one dimension but the 910XT is 0.2" longer in another. So it is the exact same surface area. Do you think the strap makes a difference?

Batteries are something I have looked into as well. Some of the Garmin running watches such as the 210 and 610 promised eight hours but apparently are closer to four or five in real life. I read the 310XT normally gets eighteen hours if you configure it correctly, but like all lithium ion batteries, capacity fails over time. Does the 310XT let you reduce the tracking time from 1 second? That would save a lot of battery e.g. switch it to 5 seconds.

Garmin actually has a lot of bad reviews online, however my friend has been using the 305 actively for over seven years and it is still going strong. Plus all GPS watches seem to have mixed reviews online.

Do you think the 910XT is worth the extra price? I like the idea of the additional swimming functions and the barometer seems useful for hiking. But 95% of the time, I would be using it for running, so I am not sure if it's worth it. But then again, if my watch is also going to last several years like my friend's watch, I'd sway towards getting the better model.

If I get some extra cash, I'd love to get the Garmin Taxtix as it would be great to use once hillwalking season is back; though £370 is hard to stomach! The Fenix is around £250 but that has a lot of bad reviews (which you'd expect from the first generation of a watch).

Seems a pretty standard price! I picked one up for less a year ago! Good watch but a bit bulky! Wish I'd paid the extra for the 910xt now!

Worth noting that the 910XT has the exact same dimensions :)
From what I understand There not adding standard power readings to this model so if ur thinking of ever getting a power meter I'd stay clear.
