From City AM:

Sainsbury's head of fuel Avishai Moor said:

From tomorrow we’re dropping the price of unleaded petrol and diesel by up to 2 pence per litre. This is another way in which we can offer our customers real value for money when they fill up with Sainsbury’s on New Year’s Day.

Heat added… voting this cold because others are doing it is like voting a 50% sale cold as others have a sale on as well, pretty stupid.

My Saintsbury's put the price up 2p at start of Christmas week! Cheeky monkeys

Sainsburys here dropped by 1p yesterday but nothing today...

Cold - already mentioned on the Asda topic

To think back in sept we were paying something like 1.35 for diesel!

HAPPY DAYS

Filled up today @ £1.079 per litre.

average tank say 35 litres - save 70p :-/
#12
Tell me about it. Talking pennies. Drop both to a pound and see car manufacturers lose their minds!
#13
From what to what?

Nice to see fuel prices drop. Voted hot. Good thing Scotland didn't leave the UK though! :)

From tomorrow we’re dropping the price of unleaded petrol and diesel by up to 2 pence per litre (My bold emphasis)

If this is a verbatim quote, then they could get away with dropping the price by 0.1p per litre.

These price drops are the consequences of the Yanks flooding the market to lower the price to ruin the Ruskie economy. Nothing to do with 'normal' market conditions.

35 litres? What's that in, a vw up? My car holds 75

My tank holds 50 litres and costs about £60 to fill... Save £1 :-/

Why fill a tank?

Only put in what you need for a week.

Cheaper to run, and the price will only drop further.
#21
Perhaps they would like to match Asda prices. When this "price downturn" started they matched Asda (as did Tesco) and made a song and dance of doing so, but now aren't following Asda and its about 3p'l adrift...
#22
I'm not complaining there'll be a price drop but as it's been announced on the television (national news last night) does it constitute as a deal?

How is it cheaper to run? If anything it's more expensive with all the extra trips to the petrol station. Especially when you're only making these kinds of savings i.e. 50p per half tank.

Only 1 whole penny off diesel here. Think I'm losing the will to live at the glacial speed of sainsbury. Now only 118.9. Think of all the extra deals I'll be able to afford now.

Cheaper to run is by having less fuel in your tank (less weight in your car to cart around means a better mpg)

With this drop to £1.16/l for diesel at my local tesco and fuelsave discount just paid £1.01/l . Long may this continue.
#27
cold from me as it's not shell fuel.

Obviously if you are making a special trip to fill up, I agree - however if you are passing a garage, just fill up when required and only fill to half.

50p is a lot of money, especially when multiplied.

Hopefully Tesco follow suit.

The last time I filled my car up was end of November and price was around £1.22 (had a quiet month so only needed to fill up once)

Now reduced to £1.10 and will be filling up tomorrow plus have a 12p off a litre so a good saving this month.

Any saving is a good saving :)
