Thanks for the info. We have a small Sainsbury's round the corner so some of these will appear. Good to know what to look out for.

No problem. I always get the Sainsbury's leaflet delivered with the one of the free local weekly papers(yes more than one(2) +a pay for one) on the Monday before the offers start.

I used to be a devoted Sainsburys customer. Thought they were great! But then I discovered the joys of Aldi & Lidl and realised that Sainburys prices were ridiculously high for many staple items.

Really? See I love Sainsburys and when we did try Aldi/lidl once to see what all the fuss was about, it was not really that cheap, and the stuff they sell is grim, food and toilietries.

    Ta op:thumbsup:

We shop at pretty much all the major supermarkets and find that Sainsburys quality foods are rather better than the competition...however, although they used to be quite competitive pricewise, it seems they've decided they can't compete with the monsters that are Tesco and Asda and so are now really expensive!!

...we buy similar types of food each week and 'Sainsbury's weeks' are ALWAYS more expensive!

You get what you pay for. Sainsburys basics stuff is dirt cheap but not great whereas the taste the difference range is pricey but great quality.

Plus a staff discount helps ;)

Sainsbury's is generally expensive. Think of it 1 step down from Waitrose but more posh than Tesco's. I use their prices of cheese (mild english cheddar block) as a benckmark. Now close to £2 for a 240/250 gram pack. The only time I go crazy with my trolley at Sainsbury's is when they have some good half price offers and deals. Like now for example, I'm stocking up on Laughing cow cheese triangles, the large 16 pack for a measely £1!! such a delight on a french stick and a nice hot cup of Latte.

Sainsburys is actually CHEAPER than Tesco overall. Tesco just looks cheap, but makes it up on other items.

Good Valentine's Day gift (for a particularly soppy girlfriend.)

EXACTLY. If you go in and buy the cheapest stuff Tescos might be a few quid cheaper but, Tesco dont usually discount staples (fresh meat being the prime example) or do the same number of multi buys as Sainsburys. They dont discount booze anything like as much as Sainsburys.

More importantly the quality of the fresh produce is far superior at Sainsburys. I have tried and on my basket of weekly shopping Tescos comes out more expensive and the quality of the fresh food is no where near as good. Tescos food is always near date as well.

I always put my shop into mysupermarket.co.uk and Sainsbury's always come out cheapest. By far the best out of the major supermarkets, quality and price wise!!!!!!!

The ASDA adverts put Sainsburys as having more items cheaper then Tesco.

a lot of these offers are already going, i know the champagne is, the coke & the oriental meal deal.
i work for sainsburys and will agree a lot of prices have been going up lately. asda sell pringles for 74p yet they are £2.03 bogof at sainsburys! they do try and match the prices to tesco but cant compete with asda for price on some things!
