Yeah, that's all they do in basics (as far as I know)
And saw it for 50p at my store as well. About time butter was this cheap!

No they do both - i think unsalted is about 80p

mine's a small store, too! (bispham / blackpool) just been and got a couple of pack as well as some baking margarine (half price at 44p) to make shortbread with the kids during the week....

Too right... was looking at previous post, with the 40p at Tesco!... mind you, just 6p more for even cheap butter is a no-brainer to me!

If butter is available at this price then why use margarine in your shortbread recipe? It will taste foul, besides being considerably worse for one's health than butter.

cos they only had two packets left on the shelf! i bought both plus a couple of blocks of the cooking margarine!

I think it was right first time.
Margarine is a bit of a wide subject to generalise on, from sophisticated premium priced olive oil products to the hydrogenated trans-fat gunk used in the worst of mass produced bakery goods!

The issue of mono-saturated fats comes into it too, and of course that depends on whether or not you subscribe to the whole fats argument in the first place, because far from everyone does!
