I dread to think what is in it, whatever it is they must have had to pay to get it taken away, so decided lets make "Beef" lasagne with it ;-)
Kerry is looking for a new job, perhaps Sainsburys can take her on to advertise it.

21% beef. None of it the good bits I'm guessing.

i know the price is a bargain, which i why it should get heat (the point of this site).

Kudo's on posting it @ this price shazzersere.

(again just the ingredients that put me off :( , but heat added for the price :)).

Perfect for students like me

And people who buy this are doing their bit for the environment too by reducing food waste! (that is if you manage to eat it all....:whistling:)

seriously its people like you that put people off posting, all right might not be what you want to eat,but theyre will be people out there who have barely enough money to scrape a meal together and this would probably be ideal for them, and yeh probably a lots of students too,at the end of the day what the hell would you expect for 35p? rump steak in the contents?

Agreed that for 35p you're not going to get the best quality grub in the world, but just for comparison here's the ingredients from the Waitrose version which, apart from making your own, is likely to be about as good as you'd expect to get from a lasagne in a box...

http://www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Beef-Lasagne-Waitrose/13721011?

Ingredients

Beef bolognese sauce (59%), bechamel sauce (25%), free range egg pasta (13%), Cheddar cheese (3%).
Beef bolognese sauce contains water, minced beef (22%), passata, tomato, onion, tomato purie, red wine, celery, extra virgin olive oil, cornflour, carrot, herbs, garlic purie, salt.
Bechamel sauce contains milk, unsalted butter, wheat flour, salt, white pepper, ground bay, clove, nutmeg.
Free range egg pasta contains durum wheat semolina, water, pasteurised free range egg (7%).
Herbs contain oregano, basil, rosemary, thyme.
Product as sold contains beef 13%.
---
So Waitrose have a full percent more beef in the sauce than Sainsbury's, and a bit more 'beef' sauce in it - otherwise no tremendous difference.
Therefore I'd say that 35p is actually a pretty good deal if you want a box of food that contains very little beef, compared to other posher boxes of food that also contain very little beef.

What it tastes like is another matter...:?

You need to understand that the selling price for a supermarket item has nothing to do with the price of production, it's always arbitrary. To set a price for an item, the marketing team asks the question: What is the maximum price we can get for this product (independent of the actual costs)?

The cheap items like sausages for 4p each, Lasagna for 35p are set to compete with other supermarkets for the "shopping basket" comparison. They are also used ( and help) to determain the inflation rate (I could go as far as suggesting that companies and Government are in cahoot to manipilate the figures, lol)

Personally I would prefer to eat Lasagne flown in by private jet direct from the best restaurant in Italy, but if I was completely broke, which I have been at times in the past, I would rather eat these than go hungry.

The lowest class of snob is a HUKD "connoisseur"

Actually, 22% of 59% = 13%, so an extra 3.55% or 37.5% more beef than Asda's. ;-)

So the cheap one's got 9% beef, the dear on 13%. As you say, 37.5% more meat.:)
Sainsbury's version costs 35p, the Waitrose is £1.70. So that's 485% more cash.:-D

If it was just being judged on meat quantity, I know which I'd go for! Not having tasted either though, I won't pass judgement.

Was 75p when I got it but stated "meat lasagne" rather than "beef".
