"Everything in Salem's Lot is connected to that house. You can see it from every part of the town. It's like a beacon throwing off an energy force." - Ben Mears (David Soul)

At last! Salem's Lot, the 1979 horror mini-series from 1979, gets the much-desired DVD treatment. Based on Stephen King's terrifying vampire novel, Tobe Hooper's cult movie is a supernatural journey into the strange world of the titular town and its oddball inhabitants.

Ben Mears (Soul) returns to his hometown, Salem's Lot, to complete work on his latest novel, but finds himself increasingly disturbed by the object of his attention, Mr Straker's (James Mason) mansion house, which terrified Ben as a child. It seems that the residents have been acting up, and some have even gone missing; all of which coincides with the arrival of Mr Straker and his mysteriously anonymous business partner, Mr Barlow, to Salem's Lot. Ben vows to get to the bottom of the disappearances and confront his childhood fears...

This still scares me. "Let me, Michael, c'mon, let me in..." scrape, scrape, scrape...
It's not brilliant but the vampire is as good as Nosferatu.

Very much like an updated version to the Max Shriek original. Gave me major nightnmares when I was a kind......hot hot hot.

That little Danny Glick stills gives me the shivers :?:?

Parts 1&2 were shown on Sky just last week. Remember watching it as a kid and it scared the bejuses outa me! :w00t:

Being made in the late 70s/early 80s, it's rather dated now. Would still be a shocker for the squeamish however. :-D

I actually liked the dated-ness of it. The film colouring was very strange.

Anyway, good deal. Voted hot. One of the few Stephen King movies that didn't completely butcher the original book.

As much as the scratching-at-the-window-scene is quite spooky, I remember being more freaked out by the head vampire in the basement when he suddenly sat up.
