The Ecogreen F3 is designed to be efficient and quiet and is surprisingly fast.

Um, yes, but why would you not change it to the cheapest available price, which lasts until Monday? And where did you hear that the higher, normal price is ending?

Scan.co.uk is really bad ! I will never buy from them again even if this one is £40. Voted hot as I think it is a good price

Scan are ok, never had issues.
Please note the Eco green drives power down, so there is a 2sec delay when it wakes up...

I havent really had any bad experiences with Scan (apart from out of stock...waiting for stock to arrive before we despatch your order).

The issue I have is that your warranty is with Scan and not Samsung, who in my experience offer the best RMA system of all manufacturers.

I would pay the extra £5 to buy from Novatech or OCUK, just for that direct to manufacturer warranty.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use this as a replacement for a Samsung story station

My one is doing the wurring thing and it would be cheaper to replace the internal drive rather than buy a new external drive.

The hard disk in this thread will probably work in your samsung station.

Is your device not under warranty?

How hard are these to fit?

I think you'll find that it's the OS that is powering down the drives and it can be easily disabled. I've used Samsung Ecogreen's for a few years.

Depending on your case, it can fitted/connected/installed in less than 5 minutes. If you don't know what you are doing then, it may take longer.

Before you fit one, try watching a youtube video on how to fit a SATA drive. After seeing that, you'll know what you are looking for.

A lot of people think that if they open up their PC case, the world will explode...it won't. Just remember this.

I have one of these, coincidentally purchased from Scan about 10 months ago.
About a month ago it had some issues accessing some files (freezing for long time, then giving an error message). After a surface scan it appeared that there were some bad sectors. The drive still works otherwise, and the lost files weren't a big issue for me (luckily), but I nevertheless wanted to replace the drive (bad sectors often spread out). So I contacted Scan and they told me to send them the drive first, to test it and then they would send me a replacement. This would mean that I wouldn't have the chance to back up my data. What I wanted was to be sent the replacement first and then (after I had copied my data across) send the old drive back. I know that Samsung does that, so I contacted Samsung (Scan also advised me to do that). Upon filling in the serial number in the RMA request form it appeared that my drive was a US drive, not a UK one, so in order to be serviced, I would need to have the replacement drive sent to an address in the US, and then have the old one also sent to an address in the US! So apparently this is a grey market import, and Scan did not mention it at all. I contacted Scan again to mention it, and I'm still waiting for their answer. Not very happy with the whole situation obviously.

I stated the above, earlier in this thread.

...and this is why I stated that its better to pay an extra £5 and buy from a retailer which stocks UK stock. The warranty, direct to manufacturer is worth MUCH MORE than £5.

Another point is that Samsung have (in my experience), the best RMA system. To forgoe their own RMA system and use Scan's instead is just madness.

I would only buy a hard drive from Scan, if their prices were less than half price to that of other retailers offering UK stock.
