HOT - I can't believe the cold votes on this - my S2 640Gb portable is great little drive - the deal for a more expensive Intenso has reached 180+

ive got 2 of these but the 500gb ones and i love them and they cost me £60 each a few months back

£77.54 today on Scan if you qualify for free shipping. Looks like the price is heading south on this size. I also have 2 of the 500GB and concur with the_gfp. Holding out for USB3 for my next drive, though.

For those who already have one, does this need one USB port or two to power it?

Just one. It only has one usb end and one mini usb end. It was only older computer/laptops that needed to be powered by 2 (usb 1.1?)

I have the 640GB version I got for ~£60 after topcashback (from novatech) these were still £90 then but wishing I waited a bit now, but then I'm not close to filling up my one yet.

Some new portable drives come with Y cables (I think the Intensos do) - but on those you'd only need use 2 ports if your laptop was 'sub-standard'

From what I've seen the 1Tb is the same as the 640 etc. and only has a single USB.

I've filled my S2 640 in just a couple of months :| - need to start archiving some files...

Good deal, heat added

Not keen on the fact Samsung solder a usb port onto the drive but if your not going to use it for laptop or ps3 internal upgrade then no problem, good price
#10
Good deal, I bought one last week from Amazon at 79.99.

I have the 1TB and its completely powered via a single USB.

1TB (2.5") drives are only available in 12.5mm thickness, so won't fit in PS3, but I still detest the soldered usb connection. Poor connection and it also prevents you from taking the drive out if the controller fails on the encolsure.
#12
Disagree about the poor connection with onboard usb ports. You avoid the need for any sata to usb converter. Makes the drive smaller and cuts down on any data transfer overhead.

good price for a 2'5

The connector on my S2 is rock solid - so much so I often don't bother disconnecting the cable when I chuck it in the laptop bag...

Just a quick word from me... my S2 died ONE day after the warranty's expiry date... it's not being recognised by any PC which means no way to recover the data... and I have to tell you I used it probably 10 times as it was my back up disk... sham, really.

Now ONLY £79.96!

£76.99 ;)
