worked for me when I used it at Dixons (bought a cooker) and Waterstones (books)...I'm sure others will verify...still works out cheaper...even you dont use Quidco or an Egg card....£10 off voucher makes it £409.99:-D

Beware, I don't think this TV has a freeview tuner.
#7
Changed post to reflect better deal at dixons and to ensure everyone knows it does not have a digital tuner.

What on earth is the R83 model - that must be well old.

The R87 (R88 in Dixons/Currys) as far as Im aware is the newer model, BUT I believe Samsung are just about to launch a new range.

The best R87 prices can be found here:-

Bought the 19" version of this and sent it back for a refund due to the constant high frequency whine coming from the set. A quick search of reviews confirms this is a common problem with these units. The 37" version is no better judging by the sound of the mother in law's!

bought the r87 version from costco last month for £399 & i wasnt the only one returning it few weeks later for a full refund. extremely poor picture quality. at first glance the colours look nice & bright but on closer examination they are just not right, tried several different settings options using avforums but just could not get a perfect picture

Yep I've done my research recently cos I got the R87 last month and wanted the best deal. Voted cold because you can get the R87 (integrated freeview) for £421 from amazon. I did. Only cos I didn't have the cash to get it from Costco
#16
seems ok for the money
#17
The R88 is £10 more...why would you not buy that?
#18
It's exactly the same but has touch sensitive controls on the unit itself. Same panel etc I believe.
#19
no, it has a digital tuner, the R38 doesn't...for £10 more I know which one I would have

Yep, best to go for the R88 - http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1838944341.1205362735@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdjadedidgejemcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=739566&category_oid=

£429.99 use code AW10 and get down to £419.99.

To make things clear:

- The R83 isn't really old, it is exactly the same as the R88 but without freeview
- R88 = freeview, R83 = no freeview, get it?
- The R88 are the DSG versions of the R87's sold in other stores. Both are identical except for the R88's touch sensitive buttons, whereas the R87 has a huge ugly power button in the middle.

Hope that clears a few things up. People get too confused when seeing these Samsung offers, and I don't want to see people buying the wrong one.

The R88 also has a lovely distracting blue light (yes you can turn it off), which draws you to the cheap plastic surround. :?

If you get a good one (quite rare) and you can overlook the poor build quality it's an above average LCD. But loads of owners have had issues and eventually returned them. :w00t:
