Anyone know whether this has a bay for an additional HDD/SSD drive?

Can confirm that it is back online and just ordered. I think this is a fantastic deal because of the specs and you also get 2 USB3 ports as well. Thanks for the heads up.X)

Can you add dedicated graphics to this system?
1 Like #12
I don't really know about adding dedicated graphics to this system, but you can expand the RAM to 16GB (if needed). :p

That's a different laptop! It's an i3, this is an i7 and the rest of the spec's different too!
#16
Can't decide , it seems like a great deal just not sure about Samsung laptops
I was leaning toward an Asus

Yes

You can add an SSD, you just need to replace the 1TB HDD.

For people that want a laptop at this price range for games;

dell deals; inspiron 15 special editon
i5 processor, 2gb Radeon 7730M graphics. 8gb ram at 1600mhz £549 vat&delivery. And that's without a code. maybe get it lower with one.?

Or a HP with all same specs but i5 instead of i7 is £400 at currys/pcworld

Probably why they're selling them off cheap.

Also I don't like the fact that it doesn't boot to desktop and the start menu has gone on windows 8 (isn't W8 for touch screen laptops?)

I had bought similar one from John Lewis:

http://www.johnlewis.com/231740125/Product.aspx

And it is a pretty good laptop with Nvidia GeForce GT 640M and strange enough the price was lower then. Now that it has Bluetooth 4.0 and Blu-ray as extra in the one shown now.

My laptop series 7 chronos was for £799 pounds and got £100 pounds cash back so it was £699 for the specs below:
Key Features

Battery life Up to 9 hours
Finish Aluminium
Graphics card Nvidia GeForce GT 640M 1GB
Guarantee 5 year guarantee included.
Hard drive 1TB + 8SSD
Memory card slot 4-in-1 card reader
Model name / number NP700Z5C
Operating system Windows 7 (64 Bit)
Processor Intel Core i7 3635QM
Processor speed 2.4GHz
Processor Type Intel Core i7
RAM 8GB
Screen resolution 1600 x 900
Screen size 15.6
Stereo speakers Built in
USB ports 1 x USB 2.0, 2 x USB 3.0
Built-in Webcam Yes
Weight 2.4g
Wireless networking 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, Intel Wireless Display (WiDi)

The only issue I have with the series 7, or probably on all samsung laptop would be the microphone is not good and both headphone jack and mic jack are the same. So in case you have a microphone separate, you cannot hear from speakers while skyping which is a bit annoying now. I am going to complain this to samsung. Alternately you can buy a HD camera with Mic connected via USB. Otherwise Gaming, Display, Battery Life is just amazing on this laptop. Series 7 Chronos

I'm looking for a good family laptop with gaming capabilities for wow. Would you recommend this?
#26
Yes, i would recommend it. I haave been using it for good couple of months. I paid over £600 for it, so for this price its quite a bargain.
#27
I have the 17" version. Only 1 hdd. I remived th dvd ang bought a cradle and moved my 1t there and put in an ssd.

No caps lock etc. leds on mine. Audio is ok but not fantastic. Case and mouse keys seem flimsey. The fan is quite loud. The keyboard is not great. Screen is very directional and bright. It is one of the cheapest i7 with a good spec
#28
Not sure if this helps anyone after one of these, but Currys do price match against John Lewis ?

Would also like to know how this compares to the Dell 15z http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/dell-inspiron-15z-15-6-ultrabook-new-model-core-i7-3517u-3-0ghz-3rd-gen-6gb-ram-1425767

Already ordered the Dell but thinking of cancelling for this? What's the better spec overall for general performance?

Already ordered the Dell but thinking of cancelling for this? What's the better spec overall for general performance?

Here is my observation;
OS: Same
Processor: Same
Warranty: Dell gives 1yr whereas John Lewis gives 2yrs warranty
Dell is around £40 costly
Dell is having 32GB SSD which is better but it has RAM 6GB so considering SSD, it is not less than 8GB RAM performance.
For Dell, you have to depend upon Quidco for cashback. I guess tracking is 99% for Dell.
Dell is having better Graphic's card.

In summary, if you are looking for higher end machine with more spending , go for Dell. Otherwise Samsung specs are great for the price John Lewis is offering and these specs are not less in any sense for any requirement. My sincere attempt to provide my feedback. Please note I am not marketing staff for Samsung or Dell. :)

That's great, many thanks for that, very much appreciated! I think if I was still deciding what purchase to make I'd go with the Samsung, but as I've already made the purchase of the Dell I'll stick with that. Anyone that's still undecided should take the above advice on board though IMO, great help.

In Europe, you always get a minimum 2 year warranty, it's law.

It's all depending on the fault I guess, still, you do have some rights even after 12 months.

I'm in the market for a new laptop, was gonna spend about £500. I'm not a gamer, nor a big video & photo editor. This would suit right? I'm not that familiar with the Samsung brand (as far as computers go) as would normally buy Sony, HP & IBM. I'm not a brand snob, but this would need 2-3 years of life in it and needs to be hard wearing too. Do I go for it tomorrow? Voting hot as spec is great

Up to you. If you just browse and email, maybe some Word? Then this would be fine. The Dell laptops give you more bang for buck though, and even if you don't game, a discrete graphics card would make things run much smoother.
