Only problem with the Samsungs is they are only 20W sound output. Listened to one instore this week and it was just too quiet. If you buy one of these I think you'll need to get a home cinema speaker system to go with it.

many thanks for the post thats really good info as Im wanting one for christmas:)
#3
Thanks for bumping this up :) I missed it earlier! Nice find edi Thanks ;-)

woo nice price, I got mine 4 weeks ago for £950 from currys, price just keeps tumbling !

On the other hand anyone who gets this check the panel for backlight leakage as I got some on mine so they are replacing it today in an hour or so.

That asides I think its a superb LCD !

I've been hovering over the BUY buttons of a few HDtv offers recently but this one seemed too good an offer to miss. Thanks edi for this great bargain :)

Me too, I clicked the buy button, should arrive Tuesday.
I've been using hotukdeals for sometime now, grabbing some very good bargains and have registered just to say thank you people :)

Hi, Can any experts out there tell me why I should pay the extra £53 for this model over the SAMSUNG LE40R72BX 40" High Definition LCD TV, which was posted over the weekend? Thanks

From looking at the website a couple of days ago, its seems this one has an 'Energy Saving' sticker on it and the other one doesnt, and i think this one supports iDtv (whatever that is) and the other doesnt.

Other than that its just cosmetics.

idtv = intergrated digital television. Basically it's got a freeview box built in. Most do anyway, some call it digital tuner.
#12
Just tried to order one, came up for collection only and 951546cfp appears to have expired now :-(
#13
whoever orders one check the screen for any backlight leakage, mine did in the top right and bottom center, Currys swapped it for a new one without a fuss as I only had it 3 weeks.

New one is perfect!
#14
thanks guys,

bought this yesterday :)

looks like currys may be clamping down on promotion codes - got chucked out of the basket page a couple of times when entering the codes for security reasons...

got there in the end though!

checked curry's site for this at 1830 hrs today, still accepting the 951546cfp code:)
#16
These codes appear not to work for collection, only for delivery - i.e. they are internet price matching codes. Currys don't want you turning up and annoying store managers by paying £450 less for a TV than they can sell it.

Hi, mine cost £890, I did not go through Quidco though. Does anybody know the contrast ratio on this model, the samsung website state 5000:1, but other specs say 3000:1, it is not specified on the Curry's website. Mine comes on saturday hopefully, I will let you know how it goes.

I was told in my local Currys store that if I took in a print out with a cheaper price on their website they would honour it instore. I never actually tried it as I used the free delivery.

Did they say they would hounour the discounts and give it to you for the sub £900 price?

£863.10 for me too - great job!

I paid £890 for mine and got it delivered today. Have to say I'm more than a little disppointed if I'm honest. I'm not sure if I have a faulty unit but the speaker system at the bottom of the screen distorts at the slightest hint of bass. I'd read the sound wasn't great but I wondered if anyone else had a similar prob with theirs ?

Also finding the 'Gaming' mode pretty usless as it's far too dark.

This is supposed to have Truesound SRS - I suggest you complain - maybe the bass speaker is bust?
Try going into the shop and see if you can test the sound instore and see if it is the same. If not, demand an engineer.
#28
It seems to be made worse when using the SRS function - gonna ring Curry's in the morning.

Mine is being delivered tomorrow, I will post an entry on how it works. I rang curry's about the price dropping from £890 to £863 and they stated they would refund the difference. I don't know if you can do this as your tv has arrived but if you return your tv as faulty, a full refund should be given and just order a new one at the lower price.:)

Wasn't that long ago I thought 720 quid was a bargain for my 32 inch Samsung LCD TV!

Need to stop reading these threads before temptation gets the better of me...

This sounds a bit worrying .... Just got off the phone, after 5x different numbers finishing with them giving me the number of a store that doesn't exist anymore I'm about ready to give up and take it back to a store for a refund :(

Thanks for that. My volume was set to full, halving it has stopped the crackling

no problem mate... not i just need to get myself one of these babys..... hopefully end of this week
#36
I'm getting it on all inputs (sky, freeview & xbox 360). Even at relatively low volumes like 40% etc. The only way I can stop it happening is to cut the BASS levels right down (the problem occurs at around the mid setting) until the sound is very tinny. Anyway finally got thru to Curry's and they're swopping it next friday, even if its the same I think I'll either just put it thru my hifi or buy a 5.1 system - any recomendations for one of these around the £150 with a digital Optical input ?

After having used it a lot more I really like the TV (picture, feature and HD wise) and any way you look at it, it's a massive bargain. :)

Got delivered Saturday gone, easy set up, lovely looking tv. I find the picture fine until it comes to sports (fast moving), as this can be blurry. Is this the norm for a LCD this size? The 'picture in picture' mode does not seem to function, it just states not available, anyone else having this prob? Also having probs viewing dvd's, picture and sound, but this could be my dvd player itself, I will check it out. Otherwise everything inculding sound, fine, just these few teething probs!
#38
Yeh I've tried pretty much every configuration I could but PinP still says 'Not Available'. Sport (football etc) can be a little less than perfect but I expected that from a screen so big really but DvD's and Xbox 360 are fine on mine.

Hi All

I've now had mine for about 3 or 4 days and have a few issues.

1. I set up the picture settings on 1 channel and I'm chuffed with the results, then when I switch channels the rest look pants, so you change it again, get it acceptable, switch channel and guess what?! PANTS!!! What I find is skin tones don't seem right. Everything on the screen could be perfect but the faces on screen look bleached. Sometimes the picture seems to change depending on which camera. In other words, you can be watching a nature program that looks fantastic, then they interview someone on screen and that looks washed out.

2. Sound is weedy. Unless you have a seperate sound system, don't expect much.

On a whole I like the TV and really shouldn't moan as I got it with a £350 discount, but just expected more. What p**ses me off is when you go into the stores and view these sets, they only seem to show HD or HDMI fed pictures (which is FANTASTIC!), but should show live footage so you can see what your going to receive.

If anyone has found their perfect setting for this LCD, please share it with us all so we can try it.

Cheers
Steve
