Thats a really tough question to answer minxtress, it depends so much on a number of factors, what is it to be used for, HD, Gaming(LCD probably best for gaming?), Freeview watching? How far away does he sit(or lie) to watch? To name but a few.
Im afraid the days of a one size fits all TV are long since gone... look on www.avforums.com loads of advice on there(probably too much)
One other piece of advice Take anything that the large electrical retailers tell you with a pinch of salt...... Ive heard some awful advice and stories:whistling:

Got one of these for less from littlewoods around xmas time, think it was closer to 350. Great tv for the money, though some slight deinterlace issues on SD material but excellent for HD without a doubt, oh, and be careful of image retention on this model too.

For Samsungs? I thought (wrongly?) that it was only for Sony.

im a firm believer that if u have summit to sell online then show it, if u have to say instrore only then either u dont have it or limited stock or just wanna fleece u for more stuff when you arrive and find out there out of stock.
#19
Shame it isn't 1080p :(

Pioneer! I got one too! Their plasma's set the benchmarks others try to reach. can buy cheap LG/Sammy plasmas for £400-500 for 42". You try buying a Pioneer for that price. No chance, Pioneer is in a different league altogether.

true but like most products, you get what you pay for....i would rather pay extra for the quality...i also have a samung lcd (which is rubbish)

Was generalising I admit, but I think probably reasonably acurate at this end of the market(£).. of course with the Pio Kuro you have a point... but thats considerably more money:)

I'm a firm believer in spelling, puctuation and properly constructed sentences but each to their own.

sorry, yes meant to agree with you, but above comment by me is weirdly strcutured. Agree Pioneer is best plasma. You get what you pay for especially with electronics.

This is my first post but I felt compelled to contribute
I have previous incarnation of the Samsung, the PS42Q97. I spent ages look for thr right TV and then just as long looking for the right price. About 2 years ago now I paid £649 for it so I really do beleive if this is your first foray into Large flatscreen TVs this one is the one to go for.
It is 1024x768 will support 1080i but not 1080p input. I have to say the builtin freeview provides a superb picture on the major channels where the bit rate is high enough. Upscaling from DVD input via HDMI leads me to think I need hardly worry about the fact this isn't FULL HD.
IMO Plasma far outdoes LCD at this level. The contrast ratio is much much better than everything else I looked at.

Sure, but I use my samsung Plasma for Freeview broadcasts using the builtin tuner, freeview recordings using the a Humax PVR, Watching DVDs and Playing games on a WII and PS2. Oh and plugging in my laptop once in a while to watch an HD version of Blade Runner I downloaded :) It works just fine for FOUR HUNDRED QUID!!!!!
