I am after something like this, however I was told that I should really be looking for something that is:

A) 100HZ
B) 24p

Does the above really make a big difference?

I posted the exact same TV about a month ago when it was available from Dixons for £670 after applying a couple of vouchers, and that was before any potential Quidco or other cashback. It was never voted hot enough to reach the main page.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/304428/samsung-46-le46a556p-series-5-1080p

Still a good price though, but buyers now could have saved at least £46 by getting it a month ago. Bizarrely, it's shot up to £860.29 at Dixons now.

If you're looking for something 100hz and 24p then you want the same TV but in the 6 series (LE46A6xx). There's quite a price gap, though!

Depending on your needs, I'd recommend the 1080p Panasonic PZ plasmas at that size and price point to be honest, as they are better screens for the money over LCD in my opinion (I sold my Sony 40V4000 for a 720p plasma and I have no regrets at all). But I guess if you want LCD that's cool.

isn't this the 5 series with jerky 1080p playback?

What jerky 1080p playback? I have a 5 series and not experienced this.

Sorry to hear about that. This can be a fickle place sometimes.

this tv is only £649 at Currys

the slightly different number on the end is so that John Lewis, Currys and Comet can each sell a different number at their own price without having to price match

Not only is it a slightly different number it is also a slightly different size tv.

The Samsung LE40A558 accepted 1080p/24 video signal from our Sony PS3, but in doing so the LCD television exhibited a type of ultra-jerky judder that was much more prominent that your usual telecine effect. Largely present throughout The Pursuit Of Happyness, our Blu-ray film choice on this occasion, the judder was most noticeable during slow pans, for example that across Chris Gardner (Will Smith) under the shower (10:36), and the one down the Dean Witter building (12:36), not to mention the scrolling end credits.

Ah. ONE review on ONE disc and using a PS3. The TV is obviously unfit for purpose.

Yeah, what do those professional reviewers know...

On the face of it, a good price for a 46", but I recently opted for the Samsung A686 series, as they have 24p/100Hz. After looking at a few screens in-store etc, I decided the difference between plasma and LCD at this price range (£700) wasn't big enough to warrant one purchase or the other, only that the LCD varieties were 1080p and the plasma were mostly 720p.

I was expecting plasmas to be worlds apart when it came to comparisons and had it in my head that the deeper blacks were going to blow me away. Only the Kuro did this for me, but then the price tag blew me over too ...

I would always advise looking at these in the flesh and requesting that a variety of sources (SD, HD etc) be put through them to ensure you get what you want. Most people won't need 1080p in reality, and a large number that have it will probably never use it to its full potential.

I don't get it, its £899 delivered.

Are we supposed to be using some voucher codes?
