First post so here goes !!!

Samsung SpinPoint Enhanced M7 640GB 2.5 inch SATA II 8MB Cache, 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive - Sony Playstation PS3 Compatible (but can also be used to replace a laptop hard drive)

Bought this to replace my current 40GB PS3 hard drive because I was constanly deleting files so I could install new games.

Not brought from dabs.com before but they delivered promptly via DHL delivery service within 3 days.

Also available from Amazon directly (not a marketplace seller) for the same price (£42.99) but it states "Usually dispatched between 1 -2 months" which was too long a wait for me personally

NB: Can also get 2% Quidco/TopCashBack

Purchased the same drive about 8 months ago for around the same price.

Used it for my PS3 and never had a problem.

Seems to be slightly cheaper at Scan, though you need to qualify for free delivery...

Thanks johnny, I hadn't checked Scan -- not much difference in price like you said but every little counts! Good for those who are avforum members but I guess this deal works out cheaper if you aren't ;)

True, but most that are around this price are gonna be 3.5" and that won't fit in a PS3. The only 1TB 2.5" I know of is another Samsung and costs about £65 so I thought this might be a good deal for those who don't need a colossal amount of space.

The rpm is not as much an issue on the PS3 - my research before I replaced my hard drive said that it doesn't make much of a difference and isn't really worth the extra money, hence why I went for this.

Plus the very popular Western Digital Scorpio Blue (which is cheaper) isn't completely compatible with the PS3. This is because it has an "eco" feature that parks the drive head when the drive isn't in use. This means when you are watching BBC iPlayer (and only iPlayer as far as I'm aware) the video will freeze every 8 seconds. So for me (as i use this feature a lot) meant I this Samsung 640GB was the best alternative.

I could never work out why iPlayer was freezing on the ps3 unlike my lappy! I am getting a replacement ps3 on Monday through insurance, black screen on load, and noticed the hard drive was stuttering. Found this thread searching for a new drive for it to restore my data(more than 60gb!) and ordered a samsung 500gb so looking forward to it all working smoothly.

Many thanks!
