I've contacted manufacturers direct for OEM drives before without issue.

OEM or not, the warranty is always the same as off-the-shelf when it comes to hard disks, unless some super offer is on. Only refurbs are different, usually 6 months or maybe 12 if you are lucky.

If it fails, you enter the serial number on the manufacturers website and send it off. A week or two later, a new drive arrives. It's very rare that you'll get a refurb, unless its a drive older than a year old. My experience is that they tend to send you a brand new drive with a further warranty as if it were new.

Do I need to buy a SATA data cable separately?

I had a thread for Scans Today Only offer, which the Mods decided to delete a couple of hours later.

Anyway, I found this one so thought I would update this to state that this is now £65.79 on Scans today only page (for Monday 28th).

Pity a load of people will end up missing this...

I wish Iomega did that when I had a dud... Sent me a refurb with a shorter warranty than I had left on the cream-crackered new one!

Cheeky bug... Beggars!?!
