:-)

Dpi is quite low for a laser printer....but great price for this!

Fantastic price for all-in-one laser, and it's Mac compatible yay! Thank you, high rating and rep added.

I have a cheapo Samsung Laser Printer, and it's never given me a minutes problem.

Very tempted to go for this one.

I have the trusty ML1510 which has been rock steady from day one.

I am tempted to buy this but to be honest I don't need it as the 1510 is more than adequte. I've not looked to see what cartridge this new one takes but the 1510 is refillable and cost hardly anything to run.
#7
Sounds like a good deal.

Anyone know how mucha refil cartridge would be, also from experience how long does the toner last for?
#8
I can't find refills for this model - just every other Samsung printer! Any one else had any luck?

Looks like the toner costs £50 :-(

The good news is that it appears to have similar toner and cartridge design to the SCX-4100 so toner bottles are available for around a tenner:

http://www.consumablecafe.co.uk etc.

The not so good news is that the cartridge has an embedded chip of death! So if the toner gets too low, the chip self destructs and the printer won't print anymore because of "out of toner".

It looks like there *may* be replacement chips available internationally, but I can't find any details from UK sellers. The easiest solution would be just to ensure the toner doesn't drop too low!

Dreaded death Chip! - If that were to happen you would just have to get a new toner cartridge.
Had a quick search and the website below has the SCX4200 toner bottle refills for sale at £14.75

http://www.tonertopup.co.uk/productCatalog.asp?Manufacturer=347&Model=SCX%2D4200+MFC&Engine=Samsung+SCX%2D4200

Although no instructions with it, anyone ever done this is it easy?

Thanks for that - although it's £23 after VAT and P&P compared to £9.99 for the onen for the 4100 mentioned above. There is a review at:

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/buyer/reviews/90588/samsung-scx4200.html

I guess that using instructions for other models should provide a good indication on how to refill these.

Also, i've noticed that the ML1610 is on offer at £49.99. This is usually £79.99. This printer is often reduced in comet/PCWorld etc but is full price at the moment. I think it was available to £39.99 a few weeks ago at comet but that deal is finished. The ML1610 can be refilled for about £10.

If you are after ML1610, watch out the Comet link. Price often shuttles between £40 - £50 inc delivery (although not currently available)

bought one!

Having great trouble getting it working on my desktop. Works fine on laptop. For some reason on the desktop it gets installed to the LTP1 port. On the laptop there is a USB virtual port created. My desktop already had a USB virtual port from my old printer but using this doesn't work. Any one else had this problem?? I assume that someone has bought one!!
[admin]#14
Are you using USB to plug it in? I don't think it should be showing as LTP1 port as that's the big old clunky printer connection....

To be honest, I dont think that the printer (or any other modern printers) have the old parallel ports. I'm using exactly the same USB cable as I had on my old printer. As I said, it works fine on my laptop. The Laptop doesn't have a parallel port but the desktop does. XP must for some reason be autaomatically assigning it to the wrong port. I've removed all of my other USB devices (apart from mouse and keyboard!) and still doesn't work.

That might be it. Hopefully someone else who bought it will be able to come along soon and chip in.

Got it working! Uninstalled the USB controllers and did a "scan for hardware changes". My USB Keyboard has started playing up too so decided that it was something to do with the USB controllers.

The scanner didn't work at first but that's because on my Xth time at installing the drivers I only installed the printer drivers and not the TWAIN ones.

I think that this problem has been because of my setup and its nothing that anyone else should worry about.

Cool I managed to get the last one at my local Argos but it wasnt advertised in their sale leaflet for some reason? Yet it did come up at the sale price so I dont care.

As mentioned in a previous post you can get 3 toner bottle refills for £20.97 @

I dont think thats a bad price.
