Can be had for £539 at Dixons using AW10 code.

Make sure you don't buy this for a holiday house or someplace you won't use the water/ice function regularly, a friend of ours did and the water went stagnant and mouldy. I have never known water to have mould on before in my life, yuck, smelt so bad too. But then again, it had been left for a few months.

If you have good water that you feel doesn't need filtering then the filter should be bypassed, but not left unreplaced because bacteria can develop in the filter medium.

The good news about these fridges is that the cost of 6 month replacement filters has gone down from around £50 about 2 years ago to about £10 now.

If anyone does buy one for a holiday home as another poster said, then it is not necessary to plumb in the water system.

You'll need to watch that. The filter cartridges fill up with bacteria, so even if you live in a good water area (we're next to the Highland Spring Water plant in Scotland) you'll still need to change it from time to time. We found this out in a strange way after one of our guinea pigs became unwell and it was eventually traced back to this despite it being used all the time (4 thirsty kids). If it makes a difference, we have a Whirpool one.

Would it be ok to put this in a garage?

My garage doesn't really suffer from the extremes of temperature as there's a chest freezer in there that works fine.

I really haven't got the room in my kitchen and want to take the fridge/freezer out to free up more worktop space.

This is my fridge freezer (but the newer version) and its very good.

Only two problems being - its a little noisy (and this one says 41 dB so is louder than most PCs and about as loud as a server) - and its deeper than a normal work surface width - so OK if it is on its own - but will stick out about 4 inches/10cm more than a worktop.

This has the downside of causing arguments resulting in a new kitchen to accommodate it.

Its also worth mentioning if put next to a window - the size of it it means that side of the room gets darker during the day - and you also need to get a plumber in to set up the water feed to it.

When buying one of these fridge freezers make sure you measure up before buying I ordered one and it wouldnt fit through the door ( I know stupid but I assumed it would fit ) was gutted!!!:cry::geek:

Avoid all these - stick to the traditional up down fridge/freezers.

I know so many people who have purchased these types and have regretted their purchases. Yeah it looks great but highly unpractical for a large family. The traditional type would take more loads and less space.

Do you really want a massive space taking fridge/freezer cluttering up your kitchen?

My 2 pennies worth.

I absolutely love mine and the kids want to take it with them when we go away, iced water and cubes on tap!!
I have mine in the conservatory, a real NO, NO, but it's been there about 4 years no probs. I would recommend to anyone, changed our lives.

Not really, as it is a single compressor model it works by cooling the freezer when the fridge is being cooled. In the winter the fridge (which is where the thermostat is) will be cold enough, so the cooling won't turn on and your freezer will thaw. Your current freezer works fine, as it only has to cool itself, so turns on whenever required.

You can get twin compressor models for very little more money, such as http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/products/details/index~modelcode~SAM-RSH1NHMH.htm which you can get with free delivery with the codes that are around.

Valid point if you have a small kitchen. If you have the space then they are excellent and I am delighted with mine and ideal for a large family and it fits nicely in a corner.

Is this actually a stainless steel finish or just a silver colour?

Be careful when ordering that they will be able to get it into your property. I ordered one a while back and I knew we'd not get it in through the front due to my hall being quite narrow near to the stairs so measured up the back gate and thee back door and thought they'd get it in no problem. I was wrong! They need a certain amount of clearance at the back to be able to manoeuvre it in and unfortunately my back gate didn't have that and they couldn't get it in.

Ended up having to badger them for a full refund, which took them over a week to provide as someone "forgot" to get the documentation to them.

My advice would be to call them and ask them to let you speak to the delivery dept and find out just how much clearance they need to get it in. It's frustrating as I have a HUGE kitchen and am now going to have to go for separates instead to get the fridge and freezer space that I require.

Other than that it is a good deal! :D

On most models the doors come off really easily, unbolt the top, lift the door off its hinge mount and unplug the wires and tubes. I had to take the doors off mine to get it in, although it did take three large adults and a lot of effort.

Can anyone tell me the size of the box the fridge comes in?

It did not come in a box - as I recall it was like four blocks of expanded polystyrene about eight inches square that fitted across/round the front and back at the top - and the same at the bottom. Then was wrapped with thick polythene that was drum tight stretched round the polystyrene bars.
