Got one of these from Play last week.
Seems pretty good so far.
To make it region-free for DVD (no code for region free blu-ray yet) do this:
1) power off then power on again, wait until it gets to the start-up selection screen.
2) eject disc tray and then close disc tray without a disc in.
3) wait until 'no disc' message has stopped displaying.
4) use the remote and press REPEAT 57538
5) A '2' should appear in the top left corner.
6) Press 9 to make the player region free.
7) Power off and and powe on again, and try a foreign disc.

Just tried on mine, AFTER applying latest firmware update, and it works.

When you do the region hacks on a samsung, after it go region free, and when you update the firmware again it will go back to region 2 so you have to do the hack again.

"Watch Media via USB + Internet + Home Network! "

Excuse me for being thick but how do you watch media through your home network with this?
I assume this means streaming but this is not DNLA compliant is it? Thought that was the BDC550
Network on this is for BD Live only isn't it??

Hello this is my first ever comment or anything on Hot UK Deals but I am a long time user. I have not heard of the company in the deal, but have been looking at this and the mentioned Sony Blu Ray player for a while. I have heard of various problems with this player regarding mainly lack of advertised online features such as the BBC iplayer and disk sticking/not playing also mentioned hear. What is the current status of the iplayer etc.?
What I want to ask is one is the player advertised “brand new in box” i.e. not a refurb or second hand? What is the company like and what is their returns policy if I have a problem with the player I couldn’t find it. What is the business like have never heard of this company? And lastly just to confirm I could sell the Blu Rays on?

Thank You All! One last thing it says 1080p will it work on a 1080i tv?

I don't know anything about the company either;

- looks brand new
- nothing or nobody will prevent you from selling the blu-rays on (may be bundle packs so might fetch less though)
- It says 1080p but it will be fine with a 1080i tv, most auto-switch depending on the max resolution of the TV, but you will be able to manually select say 720p as far as I can tell.

hope this helps.

Walk away and buy a Sony ! (waited ages to legitimately make this statement)

Got one from Hmv, personal experience is that [email protected] is pants but I have a pc for that, Blu Ray performance and media from USB drive is better than PS3 and mulls Sony blu ray player.

I have this and a Sony 360 jobbie - this is a better unit. Much nicer GUI and plays everything i've thrown at it. The hack is easy too - done within 5 mins!

Was considering going for this deal but I’m not getting the warm and fuzzies after looking at the free Blu-rays which I was considering selling on to recoup the outlay.

If you wanted to buy them all separately you are looking at about £46 (forgetting quidco cashbacks)

If you wanted to sell them on eBay you would be looking at around £30 after eBay fees.

So £89 - 30 = £59 for the blu-ray player effectively.

Is it worth £59?

RGB Direct have been going for years. Good company.
About 8 years ago they sent me a panasonic dvd player which broke, ended up they had originally sent me a refurb one, which was in error (or so they say), my dad was the one sorting it out because i was still a bit young at the time and i remember it just took ages and they were unwilling to do anything, terrible company, but that was along time ago. never again tho!
