Bought this player + films last week, bought the Summer Discount card first so got the price down to £117 (10% off) and you still have 10 film or game rentals.
Hot from me

good find...h&r

I have also bought one of these today - excellent price for a quality BluRay player and the films are worth nearly the full purchase price !! I also got mine after purchasing the discount card... well worth the money.
The only downside that I can find is that you have to buy the official Samsung WiFi adaptor if you want to connect to the internet TV services (iPlayer etc), and this is around £70.

Samsung BD-C5300, It says on the box it has the IPlayer but it there is no sign of it, I have updated to the latest firmware as well
#14
Yeah, it is quite a widespread deal, although if you get it from Blockbuster you get the free film rentals, which gives them a slight edge over the other. It's a very good player though, and the USB avi support is faultless.

I did wonder about iplayer, I'm sure I saw it somewhere but connecting it via ethernet to the broadband got me a really long download but no iplayer. Which is a big shame, as that would have been a huge bonus. Lets hope a future firmware or internet update lets it in.

Pretty much, so I guess you could say that the 6 blurays and 10 rentals 'cost' £21? given the quality of the films I think that's a fair bonus.

i think its nearer £28 because you have to buy the discount card! ;)

I am trying to find out if there any major differences between the two, because going by the model number the one on amazon is a better model? (i know it doesnt always work like that though)
#17
Cheers for the high positive response, I will add more if I pass anything. Thanks

Erm, no discount card needed for that price? £109 (ish) for the 5500, £130 for the 5300 leaves £21 difference?

The 5500 is still listed as a current model on the Samsung website, whereas the 5300 isn't. But there's still up to date firmware available for the 5300, and as far as I can tell the features are the same. So who knows what the difference is!

but you included the 10 free rentals, which you do need the card for! right?

they are both relatively new products, interestingly the 5300 is more expensive on amazon (without the movies)

read the other threads about this when it was first posted 2 months ago, more info about 5300 and 5500 there

I was in Currys yesterday at the counter paying for something and one of the members of staff had a cover sleeve for a Samsung blu-ray player with 6 free blu-rays for £100. However I think he was told to put it in the back...

Hot from me

Does anyone know if its possible to stream content from PC using DLNA without the Wi-FI dongle?

For example, the pc and the blu-ray player will both be connected to the same hub.

Not quite, the 10 free rentals that you get as part of the Blockbuster purchase are not from the card, they're just free with the player. It's merely coincidence that both the card and the bluray give you 10 free rentals. :-D

Although I did get it slightly wrong, it's ten half price rentals free with the player, not ten free rentals...:whistling:

Regarding DLNA, I did have a go with my PC to get them connected. Apparently media player 11 has a DLNA server built in, so I activated it and connected them up. But unfortunately it didn't work. However, that may not be the player, that may be my complete incompetence with anything remotely computer-like! I would have had another go, but I got a 1Tb drive connected to the USB socket, so I don't need it any more.

I vote this hot as its the same on other sites but you can get 3% quidco as well on Blockbuster so its a good deal !! Ive just ordered one.
