Samsung BD-P1000 Blu Ray Player - £149.97

Recently upgraded to a LG 42LY95 42" LCD Full HD Screen & didn't want to pay £400 for a Blu Ray Player.

I was in PC World today, (OH was shoe shopping as our local Lilly & Skinner is closing down) & I spotted a Samsung BD-P1000 for £149.97 which is a cracking deal even though is not the newest player.

Checked the online prices & PC world are the cheapest by far (Some retailer still charging £900) & its the cheapest Blu Ray Player I can find on the market.

.97p usually indicates an end of line product , i expect stock will be limited on this and the odd store might have one.

Which PC world did you see it in?

Stop being a pathetic ps3 fan boy, every thread i see you post the same thing.

The ps3 is £300, this is £150, completely different prices.

He has a point though. I understand that the PS3 is the only blu-ray player that will be able to cope with the revised standards for blu-ray discs coming towards the end of the year. Would be a shame to spend £150 now, only to find new discs won't play in it come next year.

atleast you give a reason, granted this but this is "hotukdeals" so its not whats better/worse, its if the deal is good or not.

Absolutely right that it's about deals, but deals aren't just about cash. Just wanted to point out that you might not consider it much of a deal if you find it partially obsolete within 12 months.

It's the cheapest way to get bluray, but not a good deal.

If you want some HD stuff to keep you going for the next 12 months while prices drop then get one of the fire sale HD-DVD Toshiba's.

A PS3 can be picked up for less than £100 more, will be profile 2.0 compliant, will have a higher resale value should you ever change, and is also a next gen console thrown in.

Cold IMO.

Good price for a Blu player, but for my 2p worth, wait you can get dual format HD-DVD Blu-Ray players for under £400, the Chinese have started getting in on the action and just like the flat screen prices dropped so will the players.

By the end of the year dual format players will be under £200 and you don't have to worry about format.

Why would you have to worry about the format and fork out extra for a dual format player when HD DVD is dead?

. . . my 2p's worth - we have just ordered a media PC with a dual format BR & HD-DVD player - the software on that is upgradeable when they change to BR 2.0 - and the price of HD-DVDs is ridiculus on the 2nd hand market - with a decent graphics card, hooked up to 40" TFT via HDMI we have pretty much everything we need . . Hot, I cant find a bluray player near this price, incidentally this was the first player introduced to the uk at a whopping £900 so spec is relatively low. review here

true but i bought it em, 5years ago when i was...... 10years old rofl. And how did this become a thread about me O.o, it is for the blu-ray player and i was just saying that you shouldnt waste your life trolling around this forums to say ps3 is amazing.

Thats a bad way to waste your life, go out with your friends instead of playing on the ps3 all day and then go on hotukdeals just to feel secure that your console is the best.

This isn't true, the new discs that you're reading about will be java enabled which is related to the discs extras. On some of these new discs then you might not be able to access the extras but you'll still be able to watch the film. Personally I never bother with the extras so it wouldn't bother me.

Incidentially this player - as are all current stand alone blu-ray players - is profile 1.0. To my knowledge the new profile 1.1 players which will play the above extras when they arrive are not yet on the market so if this bothers you you'd be better off waiting until later in the year. The profile 2.0 that the PS3 owners mention relates to media pcs (of which the PS3 is one) and is specific to media centre functionality (HD Movie downloads within the next 12 months?). Standalone blu-ray players (with no hard disc and insufficient RAM) will never be profile 2.0 compliant as they don't qualify as media centres so I guess 1.1 will be as far as they go.

As far as deals go this is pretty good - I looked around recently and the cheapest blu-ray player I could find was £199 so £150 is the best yet. Voted Hot for that reason
